Forklift Operator (Current Employee) –  Norcross, GADecember 19, 2017
MANAGERS are bullies. They say on a daily basis that they don't micromanaged, but that's all they do. They take no advice. Constantly put so much work on you that there is absolutely NOWAY to succeed. Manager over ordered and had the warehouse full to capacity and used others as scape goats. Horrible place to work. Spend most of there day together laughing, joking, and playing on their phones. The funny thing is they think people don't realize it.

Terrible culture, and very few actual leaders.
Accounting (Former Employee) –  TexasOctober 30, 2017
Beacon Roofing Supply is actually a sales acquisition company. So they go in, buy up a smaller business in the industry and give the employees a week of training, then send them on their way. Most of these companies were private before so there are plenty of issues in regards to actual controls within the company. Most of the companies they acquire had better systems than the DOS system from the 80s that they all switch new acquisitions to.

Management is not good at supporting employees. They have unrealistic expectations and do not show any support in helping them meet those expectations. They are a very lean company so their corporate staff are over worked and have been there a very long time. So any new comers are looked down upon and it can get very cut throat.
Pros
Its a job and pays the bills.
Cons
Poor management, benefits, cut throat, over worked

A small company with slow business
Gutter Machine Operator/Material Handler (Current Employee) –  Charlotte, NCJuly 11, 2017
A typical day at work is producing about 200 boxes of downspout, load about 3 trailers (half). I learned a lot about the gutter business and roofing industry. Management is mediocre, shows some favoritism. The workplace culture is slow, hot in the summer, cold in the winter. The hardest part of the job is not having enough employees to effectively stay caught up, the most enjoyable part is the people I work with are down to earth.

Great company IF you're "in" with the right people
Finance Manager (Former Employee) –  OhioJune 5, 2017
Beacon can be an incredible place to work and grow. However, this is based on being well liked by management. If you make a difference, you'll be rewarded. If you do just what's necessary to get by, you'll be left wanting. My experience was this company rewarded positive gains. I had 3 pay increases within my first year of employment. The benefits are good.
My advice would be to make sure whoever you are working for is someone you respect and trust. If they are, you'll work hard and enjoy it. If you're hesitant about the direct hiring manager, stay away. Find something else.
Pros
Good pay. Good benefits. Profitable, stable company
Cons
Tendency to office drama in some departments

Delivery Driver (Former Employee) –  Roanoke, VAMay 14, 2017
I worked at Beacon Supply aka Best Distributing. Manager and friends run branch like high school. They dispatch drivers and know anything about truck driving or the layout of this valley. Deliveries are always late. Manager will also keep you down, no advancement. Manager doesn't want anyone to rise past them. They degrade drivers and warehouse personnel. Talk to them like children, the manager and their friends. Wouldn't recommend this company to anyone unless the current manager is removed.

Great Environment
operations (Current Employee) –  Kansas CityFebruary 17, 2017
The overall benefits at this company are great. They pay for your life insurance, short/long term disability, and you get 3 floating holiday's a year on top of your normal vacation and sick days.

Managers take care of their employee's and create a vey team oriented environment. I have been here for 8 months and absolutely love going to work everyday.

You will work longer hours here, but you are off every weekend and you can almost bet that you will get overtime each week. Branch Managers go out of their way to do extra things for the employees like buy lunch from time to time.
Pros
Over-Time, Benefits, Team Environment
Cons
Longer hours but you get rewarded for it.

Undisclosed (Former Employee) –  UndisclosedJanuary 9, 2017
You will go through a series of interviews in order to work here. It took me 3 months and 4 interviews to finally start working. After you start you'll begin to see that the majority of the managers have no prior experience managing people and only care about sales numbers. They show preferential treatment towards certain employees that they deem "irreplaceable".
Internal conflicts happen often and management turns a blind eye. When an employee is out of line, they are almost never written up because it has to "be approved by HR". Many of the higher-ups have been promoted and have no business in the roles they are in. The employees are mostly long-tenured and disgruntled. STAY AWAY!
Pros
Normal Monday-Friday hours
Cons
No support from management, hostile workplace, preferential treatment, micro-managers

Beacon Roofing Supply is a great company to work for. I believe if they continue on the upward swing that they are on they will not only surpassed the number one roofing company in the United States but they will remain on top beating ABC Supply buy a mile.

Unprofessional Management
Management Trainee @ Shelter Distribution (Former Employee) –  North Little Rock, ARMarch 20, 2013
This company boasts about how important its people are, but if your boss does not like you personally, he will be allowed to push you out the door, and HR will ignore your requests for help. Biggest waste of a year of my life to date.
Pros
good hours, weekends off
Cons
unprofessional and uneducated management, very political leadership, company does not keep its promises even when made in writing.
