About Bendix

If you slow down on the interstate and notice an 18-wheeler in your rearview mirror, you may be more grateful for Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems (Bendix CVS) than you realize. The company develops and makes systems for braking, stability, and traction, along with related components for heavy- and medium-duty trucks, trailers, tractors, buses, and – more... other commercial vehicles. Additional products include night vision systems, adaptive cruise control, warning devices, and fan clutches. Customers include Blue Bird, Caterpillar, Mack Trucks, Peterbilt, and PACCAR. Bendix CVS operates plants in Canada, Mexico, and the US. The company is a unit of German brake manufacturing giant Knorr-Bremse AG.

The company will look to partner with end users to strengthen business relationships. In 2010 Mack Trucks announced that Bendix drum brakes would be standard equipment on the company's commercial vehicles. (The brake drums are made by Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake, a joint venture with Dana Commercial Vehicle Products.) Later that same year Bendix joined with Volvo Trucks Canada to promote commercial vehicle safety. In an effort to peel back to its core business, Bendix CVS sold its pneumatic fan drive/clutch business and related assets to Kit Masters in late 2009.

The company has launched Bendix Wingman Active Cruise with Braking (ACB) to help drivers avoid collisions through a radar sensor mounted to the front of the vehicle. With cruise control on and speed set, ACB warns and intervenes to maintain proper following distance by reducing the throttle. Bendix Pneumatic Booster System (PBS), an air management system to improve fuel economy and reduce engine emissions, was also introduced. Additionally, the company launched its Bendix Brake Training School for new and experienced technicians.

The company supplies safety technologies throughout Australia, Europe, and North America. Bendix CVS provides products for vehicles involved in fleets (private, corporate, and government), military, construction, mining, logging, public utilities, fire and rescue, petroleum and chemical hauling, and refuse management.

Bendix CVS was fraudulently connected to a sweepstakes scam in 2008, in which the company's name was used in award letters and fake checks sent to consumers through the US Mail. The company has issued fraud alerts and is working closely with legal authorities in the investigation. – less
