Job Summary: Medication administration to the incarcerated men and women housed within the Detention Center. Ensure accurate and timely delivery of medications, documenting the acceptance and ingesting of prescribed medications and documenting any refusal of medication administration. Timely and accurate communication with supervisory personnel regarding any medical concerns related to inmates. Timely and accurate communication with supervisors with regard to any inappropriate inmate behavior.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Set up medications for administration.
Ensure accuracy of medication delivered.
Participate in the ordering of medications.
Ensure accuracy of the Medication Administration record.
Follow all protocols, procedures, etc. for the accurate monitoring of medication delivery.
Adhere to all security criteria as outlined by the Detention Center supervisory personnel.
Communicate concerns clearly expressed by inmates during medication pass and ensure follow up is conducted and documented.
Assist in clinic activities as necessary and within skill level.
Maintain adherence to Nurse Practice Act, all Department of Corrections criteria, and Policies and Procedures of Spectrum Medical, Inc.
Assist in medical records with ensuring all medications follow inmates out of the facility if appropriate to do so.
Ensure physician orders are current, accurate, and have no interactions with other already prescribed medications in conjunction with other medical staff and the pharmacist.
Document all activities as they relate to the delivery of medical care to incarcerated populations.
Keep the stock room clean, neat and orderly.
Order stock items when necessary and prior to their depletion.
Keep careful and precise records of prescription medications taken from the pharmacy located at the Detention Center, if this is applicable to the Detention Center.
Work closely with the medical and mental health staff as well as the Detention Center staff.
Use universal precautions in all dealings with the inmate population.
Participate in call rotation.
Experience in the delivery of health care, especially in the area of medication administration.
Work in an environment and with a population that can be stressful.
Maintain a background free from violations of laws, rules, etc
