The company relies on the instructors
Portuguese Instructor (Current Employee) –  Cincinnati, OHJune 19, 2017
The instructors are the heart of the company and they work hard to keep their job. The method to teach applied works well but it is a lot to do with the instructor who normally stays in the company because loves to teach. Not much is offered to the instructors in exchanged to the service provided. No matter how many years an instructor is within the company, the company itself does not recognize the loyalty when it comes to schedule classes and salary raise; furthermore, the company does not hire instructors according to the demand; as a result, there are more instructors for certain languages than students; therefore there is a lack of classes in comparison to the availability provided by the instructor.

A nice side gig, with the potential for some part-time benefits
English Instructor (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCNovember 2, 2016
While the job itself isn't the most complicated, its compensation is mediocre at best. The best aspects are the flexibility and opportunity to meet and work with people from so many different fields and countries. Benefits do include (if you've put in enough time) 401(k) with 100% match (up to 20% of pay), and health insurance for those putting in enough time - but as language instructors, the former is a modest sum and the latter is hard to do. Discounts on lessons are a boon, if you can afford both the time and expense to be at work, but pay for the privilege. Staff are usually friendly, and the cast of characters (instructors, students, LC admin) is deliberately international in ways that always give one the feel of being a properly global citizen.
Pros
excellent environment, diverse workforce and studentship, flexible schedule
Cons
modest compensation schemes, extremely demand-based work

Good for entry level and if you don't need money
Instructor (part-time) (Former Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAAugust 11, 2016
There's absolutely no way you can make a living working at Berlitz. Pay is horrible. Few hours.
Technique is outdated, not tailored to individuals' needs and learning style.
There are better schools for students and better employers.

Berlitz should be ashamed of how much they charge their students and how little they pay their employees.
Pros
Meeting lots of people
Cons
Low pay, no pay raise, no guaranteed hours, horrible HR, outdated books, techniques

A great place to work.
As instructor I was furnished with all the materials that is required to help me do my job. The management requires a daily progress report and advancement of the student; that gave me a satisfactory feeling about my job.

Great place for multicultural experience
Language Instructor (Former Employee) –  Washington, DCMay 5, 2014
I like working at Berlitz because I get a chance to teach English to non-English speakers from many countries with many backgrounds and of different ages. Teaching these students is a great way to learn about a new culture while teaching them about mine. It can be a challenge sometimes due to cultural differences, but patience and determination can help a great deal! Everyone at Berlitz is so kind, friendly, and always willing to help. It is a great atmosphere for those who want to expand their cultural understandings past their own.

Great people bad money
Language Instructor (Current Employee) –  Denver, COMay 5, 2014
Work for almost couple years with Berlitz and I have to say, good place to start a temporary job. People are great but the money you earn as language instructor is terrible (around $11/hour). Good management and co-workers are great. Hardest part of the job is working a lot during a week, earning little money, and then the next week no more classes.
Pros
Experience and fun people
Cons
Bad hour rate paid

English & Spanish Professor (Current Employee) –  San Juan, PRApril 24, 2014
It's a great company in which the employee learns how to teach and perfect the art of teaching. It doesn't follow a routine; everyday there's something new. You will have an array of experiences with each class. Co-workers are extremely friendly and willing to cooperate.

Berlitz allows its employees to choose their work hours. The company also allows to leave for family events and emergencies.
Working at Berlitz has allowed me to improve on a myriad of skills such as presentation, management and Japanese language skills.
