Fun and great place to work
Regional Sales Manager (Former Employee), Manchester, ENG – April 15, 2013
Pros: travel
Cons: very long hours

Task driven
Sales Floor manager (Current Employee), Stevenage – May 14, 2013
Pros: great discount across the brands.
Cons: tough company to progress in.
I have a real pride and passion for working with BHS in my store, my team is enthusiastic and has a great skill set between them. Some who are very experienced have help my drive to progress through the company.
I think the biggest thing i have learnt from BHS is the direction the company is taken, as a big name on the high street is has done a lot – more... of work around who their customer are and a massive step change in the appearance of stores. I've also been fortunate enough to be on the MOD store rollouts which has seen a massive update to several stores and puts us a key player on the high street.
I think an enjoyable part of my job is getting the team excited and enthusiastic about where the store and the company is heading and to see that passion in my associates. – less

great company to work for
Supervisor for Database Maintenance (Former Employee), Germany – May 12, 2013
Pros: great benefits and pension packages
Cons: location: germany
Communicating and create a liason on a daily base with Team members, SAP Specialists and end users to achieve the most effective and efficiant work flow.

The Managment was able to give clear instructions and expectations to the Team as well room for creativity and opportunity to grow within the company / projects.

My co-workers relationship was uncomplicated – more... and effortless. Everybody felt equal in the team and everybody worked well together.

The hardest part of the job was working with SAP Endusers which did not welcome the changes in the system / company.

Great work environment
Sales Assistant (Former Employee), Newcastle upon Tyne – May 3, 2013
I found my work experience was excellent and really enjoyable. Most days, I had to vary my jobs between working on the floor, helping out in the stock room, on fitting room duties and merchandising. I learned how to be patient and to think for myself. All the employers were really friendly and really helped you when you needed extra help. The hardest – more... part of my job was finding things to do when I had completed my set tasks but I did manage to find tasks to do. – less

Good for learning new skills.
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Aylesbury – April 12, 2013
BHS was good for learning new skills but the pay wasn't as high as I'd hoped. The typical day at work was long, and all I really learnt was how to interact with customers and work a till.
My co-workers were the best part of the job. I got along with them really well and we all still stay in touch.

Mixed...
sales assistant (Former Employee), United Kingdo – March 28, 2013
Pros: 20% staff discount and good work colleagues choice of products
Cons: unsociable hours, changing rotas, standing up alot and bad management
Every day was mostly the same. Mundane work for minimum wage. No pay rise in 3 years. Sometimes your salary didn't match the hours you worked

Never offered full time hours unless you were working over public holidays i.e. christmas easter etc. Sometimes your hours were reduced.

Had to work regular late nights; 9pm and 7pm finishes when sale events – more... were on.

Hours and days changed on the rota with next to no notice.

Management very pushy about sales targets and didn't believe in you progressing, always passed the book and spoke to staff like dirt.

Work colleagues are the best thing about the firm as well as a 20% staff discount, which isn't great because customers get the same discount with their credit cards on sale event days.

Disappointing firm to work for and would not recommend to anyone unless you can afford to live part time on minimum wage and have no ambition and dont mind how you are treated. Other branches of BHS seem fine in comparison. – less

Interacting with people at all times
Sales advisor (Former Employee), CMK – March 20, 2013
Pros: interacting with people
Cons: long hours
I worked at BHS for my work experience, i was expected to attend to customers on the shop floor and help them out with what they need. I handled the fitting rooms, exchanging costumers clothes for them and giving them my opinion and friendly advice. I helped in the stock department bringing clothes from the stock room to the shop floor and arranging – more... them on display. The hardest part of the job is being on your feet the entire day, but i enjoy meeting new people and interacting with people. – less

Customer service assistant (Former Employee), Southport – March 12, 2013
Pros: staff discount
Cons: it was only a seasonal post
The fact that this was only a Temp job for the Christmas period, an enjoyable environment to work in. Varied duties on the customer service desk. I enjoyed being able to turn some angry customers to going away with a positive view of how their issue was resolved.

Friendly active environment to work in.
sales assistant (Former Employee), birmingham – February 18, 2013
Pros: discount card
Cons: 10 hour shifts
The most enjoyable part of the job was working with the public, the management were very friendly and the staff enjoyed coming into to work. We had to sell credit cards at a target and as a competition between the staff, so that was fun to have a goal through the day. I learned and trained with them in sales and i was very good at the job.

really great place to work
cafe associate (Former Employee), cambridge – January 25, 2013
Pros: a great work atmosphere and very friendly people
Cons: i didnt have enough hours
a typical day at work was alwahys different because they never put you on the same thing and you were changed around all the time so for 2 hours i could have been serving customers and another 2 hours i would be in pot wash it was great. i gained alot more confidence and how understanding they were with each different circumstance. management helped – more... you as much as you needed them to if you deserved discipline then then you would receive it but were always given credit where it was due.. i loved my co workers everyone was so friendly we were like one big family. the hardest part was when it was really busy and we were short staffed you were run off your feet but i loved it the busier the better. the thing i enjoyed most was the fact that you met new people everyday and you could get a repor with the regular customers everyone was so friendly. – less

store asssociate (Former Employee), walsall – January 5, 2013
Pros: 25% discount on arcadia brand
Cons: temporary position, not enough hours given
I always felt welcome at BHS. I wasn't treated like a temporary member of staff, I always felt permanent. I learnt how to talk to customers face to face. The managers were extremely helpful if I did not know how to carry out a certain task and I was never ashamed to ask for help. The hardest part was leaving as I grew to love my job. The most enjoyable – more... part of the job was cashier work, as it was exciting as I had always been on the other side of the till, it was great to see what it was like to work there. – less
