About BJC HOME CARE SERVICES

If it's medical attention you seek in the Gateway City, chances are BJC HealthCare is where you'll find it. The sprawling, not-for-profit system operates more than a dozen hospitals -- including Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Boone Hospital Center, and Christian Hospital -- and some 100 primary care and specialty care facilities in and around St. Louis. BJC – more... HealthCare's facilities combined have more than 3,400 beds. Specialized services include home health care, behavioral health, and long-term care at a handful of nursing facilities. The company's BarnesCare subsidiary offers occupational health care to corporations. The system is led by long-time health care administrator CEO Steven Lipstein.

BJC HealthCare's specialty hospitals include St. Louis Children's Hospital, a teaching hospital and leader in pediatric care, and the Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, which provides inpatient and outpatient rehab services in partnership with HealthSouth. BJC also manages Clay County Hospital, a small Critical Access facility in rural southern Illinois. Several of BJC HealthCare's hospitals (such as the children's hospital) are teaching facilities affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine.

Along with occupational health care services, such as drug testing and injury treatment, BarnesCare offers biopharmaceutical services for companies in the pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, and biotechnology industries. BarnesCare provides health hazard assessments, environmental, health, and safety (EHS) support, clinical evaluations, and expert witness testimony.

BJC's Medical Group is home to about 125 physicians who represent a range of specialties including primary care, oncology, pulmonology, endocrinology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and neurology. BJC Medical Group also helps member physician practices recruit doctors to growing markets. Physicians who aren't employed by the group can still benefit from its practice management services through BJC Medical Group's PhyFocus division. PhyFocus's client services include billing and payment management, insurance and patient collections, and monthly reporting.

BJC HealthCare spends more than $250 million annually on capital improvements such as renovations, expansions, new construction, and new technology. In recent years BJC has expanded several of its hospital facilities, including St. Louis Children's Hospital, Alton Memorial Hospital, and Missouri Baptist Medical Center. BJC HealthCare is also investing in medical research facilities and expanding outpatient services including surgery, digital imaging, and electrophysiology.

The system operates a magnet school for children in preschool through second grade in collaboration with the St. Louis Board of Education. The Stix Early Childhood Center follows a curriculum based on the theory that children increase their knowledge through interactions with the physical and social world. The center has nearly 30 classrooms, a gymnasium, and cafeteria that support about 600 children.

BJC HealthCare is the product of the June 1993 merger of Barnes-Jewish and Christian Health Services. – less
