Former Truck Driver, Beloit, WI - June 20, 2015
Hi Everyone - interesting reviews, and I think there's a fair amount of truth in some of them. I started with Blackhawk in July 2009 as a company driver and was promoted to a driver/account manager trainee in May 2015. I'm not sure I'd agree that *all* managers try to do a driver’s job? As a truck driver I want to be proud of my work, and I want my achievements to be acknowledged. I also want to feel proud of what the organization as a whole achieves. My background/trucking experience has meant I've worked in a few different organizations and watched various employees starting and finishing up in all sorts of different sectors, and one thing that's really stood out for me is the wide variety of individual differences that people bring with them to a driving job. I've definitely seen drivers start enthusiastically and find themselves gradually worn down by the job (in fact, in more than one of my jobs, I've *been* that way myself). But I've also known people who've started a job simply because they need the money and no matter the compensation – it’s never enough! I've also known a fair number of drivers who bring an adversarial employee-versus-management mindset with them from a previous job, and nothing that the managers in the new job say or do will convince them otherwise. Blackhawk supports and encourages cooperation, communication, friendliness, acceptance, and teamwork.
Blackhawk Transport is a privately held motor carrier which is financially stable. They have the small company feel, caring and engaged leadership. They are committed to employees and have policies and benefits that seek to add value to employees' lives. Above average equipment, (APU’s on ALL tractors), facilities and technology (E-logs). Growth and achievement possible (prime example). When I drove, I didn't sit waiting on loads very often. Miles per week are ok. You have good weeks and bad weeks but that's the nature of the beast. Home time is good but again not always perfect. They really do a good job of working with you on time off when requested. They have a solid customer base, some accounts are no touch freight, and weekly pay for drivers. Overall: “GREAT” company. Stable place to work.
