FINANCIAL ANALYST (Former Employee) –  Wilmington, DEFebruary 5, 2018
BLACKROCK was a spectacular place where I was surrounded by brilliant people who were always very helpful and willing to teach. I worked with a group of people who were educated in anything from accounting & finance to IT. In the 5 years I worked at BLACKROCK, I cultivated an invaluable set of excel skills for which I will be forever indebted to my managers.
Pros
Great Benefits & Pay for Perfomance
Cons
Somewhat Stressful Environment / Limited Growth

Work Aholic Company
Corporate Actions Associate (Former Employee) –  Wilmington, DEJanuary 27, 2018
If you like to burn the candle at both ends, this is the company to work for.

Extremely smart, driven people work at BlackRock and there is a high expectation of excellence.

There is no leadership standard that the managers are held to be accountable. Unfortunately bad managers who produce work volume but not work process efficiencies remain and create a toxic work environment.
Pros
Terrific benefits.
Cons
Long hours, managers not leaders

If you follow the markets daily and have a passion for the industry, BlackRock is for you
Vice President (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CAJanuary 14, 2018
Very pleasant culture and work environment, but at heart a New York behemoth. Don't underestimate the hierarchy and titles. Not a place where out-of-the-box new ideas or radical questions are appreciated...unless you are already part of the executive team. That said, it's a great name on the resume and you can get some great experience and good pay if you behave.
Pros
benefits, reputation

competitive, back-stabbing, corporate

Overall a good place to work.
VP Internal Business Manager (Former Employee) –  Princeton, NJNovember 6, 2017
Overall not a bad place to work, however instead of looking at other ways to cut costs, eliminating roles/employees is always first. Stressful work environment at times.

They are pretty good with upward mobility. Several opportunities around the globe. General work environment is good. Nice buildings, great benefits and better than average compensation.

You are in or out of the circle. If out, no getting in
Employee (Former Employee) –  Wilmington, DEAugust 31, 2017
This started as a great oppratunity but I quickly discovered that there is major favoritism and no room for advancement. If you do not come in at VP or above do not expect to get there unless you are "in" the circle.
Politics come before productivity.
Do not expect any training or conferences.
Pros
Good 401K
Cons
0 growth

No room for career advancement, poor management, long working hours and thus salary is not competitive. Unfairly within teams. Working with many talented people but too competitive for advancement.

Vice President (Current Employee) –  New York, NYAugust 11, 2017
I have been working in Blackrock more than 8 years. Blackrock has excellent benefit and vacation days. However, the compensation is terrible, (no increase and cut bonus in the past two years). They become very demanding on performance review and objective setting. It could take you couple days to set up the yearly objectives plus we have to finish our daily jobs. If you are a manger ( the worse) you have to work on your management goals and taking many classes to achieve your objective for the year. No recognition on your hardworking. The performance review only record your negative feedback. You will feel that you have no value and no recognition in this job.
Pros
good benefit
Cons
bad compensation

The company has great benefits. And has good opportunities. They throw awesome parties. However, the work load so high that the work life balance is very poor.

Hard work is well rewarded
Investment Accounting Analyst (Current Employee) –  Wilmington, DEJune 15, 2017
There is a lot of opportunity if you work hard, but you have to work very hard. Average days are much longer than the normal 9-5, and breaks are rare. Pay is good, and the work is very fulfilling. I would recommend working here to anyone who wants to hard to advance their career.

Strong company vision, lacks tactical execution
Vice President, Operations (Former Employee) –  Princeton, NJFebruary 22, 2017
Some of the best and worst are employed by this firm.
The best are smart, hard working, ethical and loyal. Unfortunately, a lot of these people are the most underpaid. The company has strong senior leaders, smart investment professionals and comparable benefit packages. The struggle comes in when you move outside of the revenue generating departments of the firm. These support areas are managed so poorly. People are left in positions for long periods of time with limited career development or growth. This firm lacks strong managers and is running far behind on building in the work life balance benefits for employees.
Pros
Stable, decent benefits, good people
Cons
Compensation is inconsistent, advancement opportunities limited, no strong managers

Boring work with no advancement - everyone seems scared of saying anything that will make sr. management angry. Very odd, no creativeness, hence "risk management".

BlackRock is a good company to work for with good benefits. However, it can be difficult to advance one's career. As a with any large company, there is a lot of red tape and politics.

Think of it as Goldman Sachs without the bonus. As an analyst you are expect to do all the work, make relatively little money comparing with banks and hedge funds, and the only training you are getting is BlackRock Aladdin, which is not of much use outside of the company.
Pros
401K match, low fee options in the 401K plan

low pay, lack of growth and lots of politics
