The Director of Network Engineering role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including network design strategy, network engineering, implementation, migration planning, service design and testing, vendor selection, and network optimization for a wireless CDMA/LTE operator
This position will be required to work in a consultative manner with vendors, project managers, product development, sales, customer service, and other engineers to deliver a superior network experience for our customers and this position will have the following responsibilities:
Produce network topologies and diagrams with the best architecture available to support our current customer needs while supporting our growth strategies;
Prepare network implementation and migration plans;
Oversee equipment and service configuration;
Test and Support networks in various stages of deployment;
Audit and assess the current networks for wireless service provider, retail, and office environments;
Lead requirements and scoping sessions as needed to make sure we get the right hardware and software to realize the full vision of our services;
Produce and review technical statement of work documentation for special projects;
Provide appropriate training and assistance to other network employees;
Monitor, evaluate, and implement network changes to enhance performance, scalability, and security;
Work closely with internal and external groups to plan, design, and test deployments of new products and features;
Develop and maintain strong relationships with technical management teams at vendors.
Develop and maintain in-depth technical knowledge of key Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, Cisco, Sun, and other telecom hardware and software products available to wireless carriers.
Experience in CDMA/LTE wireless operator deployments
Expert Level Knowledge in IP routing protocols including MPLS and VPLS.
Extensive prior work on creating network diagrams, managing IP address pools, and initial setting up hardware including gateways, network appliances, routers, switches and access points
Expert knowledge of VoIP and QOS standards.
Detailed knowledge of Radius authentication, PDSN, and data network core elements for a wireless telecommunications carrier.
Detailed knowledge of Ethernet, ATM, SDH/SONET, Frame Relay, Packet over SDH/SONET, WDM, wireless technologies, Access technologies (DSL, cable, and lease lines), Layer 3 Traffic Engineering and Level 2 Traffic Management.
Experience in Network Management, Operation Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS) is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Four year degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent education.
Cisco Certification (CCNA, CCNP) or equivalent experience.
