In 1961 the Bolton Group established itself in Greece with a new distribution company named Bolton Hellas. Over time, the company has successfully introduced the Group's main international brands into the Greek market, alongside the company's historic brand Overlay.
In 1967 the Group entered the Italian market for detergents and home care products. Today, Bolton Manitoba products are sold throughout Europe and the Middle East. Its well-known brands are WC Net, Merito, Omino Bianco and Smac.
In 1968 the Group entered the Italian personal care market. In 1982 the Group acquired a participation in Manetti & Roberts, a prestigious pharmaceutical and toiletry company marketing the Neutro Roberts and Borotalco brands. Full ownership followed in 1993.
In 1989 the Bolton Group became a leading shareholder of UHU, the leading adhesives company in Germany. By 1994, UHU became a fully owned subsidiary of the Group. Today UHU operates on a world-wide basis with products distributed in over 125 countries and has aquired the Karlsons Klister brand in Scandinavia and the Greven brand in Germany.
In 1992 the Group expanded its home care business to France and Belgium through the acquisition of Bolton Solitaire and Bolton Belgium. These companies market the Group's main household brands as well as Carolin, the historic leader in tile floor cleaners.
In 1993 the Group entered the cosmetics business in Italy with the acquisition of Collistar, the leading brand in Italian perfumeries today, which is also sold in an increasing number of European countries.
In 1996 the Group expanded its food business through the acquisition of Bolton CILE, the leading distributor of branded packaged food in Spain. Bolton CILE also manufactures and markets Prima, its own top quality brand of sauces, vinegar and crackers.
In 1996 the Group acquired Bison International, the leader in adhesives and sealants in the Benelux. Bison International exports to more than 50 countries world-wide. Its main brands are Bison, Velpon and Imedio.
In 1998 the Bolton Group acquired in France the Rogé Cavaillès and Botot brands. Rogé Cavaillès, established in 1855, is a successfull range of products designed for sensitive skin, exclusively sold in pharmacies.
In 1999 the Bolton Group became the European leader of the canned tuna market with the acquisition in France of Saupiquet, the leading company in the French canned tuna market. Catering to the German market, Saupiquet Deutschland is an important subsidiary which markets specifically developed products for German consumers.
In 1999 the Bolton Group acquired a major shareholding in Athens Papermill, the largest manufacturer of tissue paper in Greece. With the Softex brand Athens Papermill leads the Greek market for tissue products. In 2002, Bolton Group controlled 100, of Athens Papermill.
In 1999, the Group established itself in Spain with Bolton Manitoba España. Today, WC Net and Omino Bianco are will represented in the Spanish distribution channels and are among the main brands in their respective markets.
In 2000 the Bolton Group acquired Bolton Czechia, a distributor of Bolton key brands in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. This acquisition marked the Group's first entry into Central Europe.
In 2001 Bison International expanded its operations by acquiring Griffon International, the main producer of solvent cements for jointing PVC pipes and fittings in The Netherlands.
In 2001 the Bolton Group acquired Bolton Nederland, a company active in the marketing of household and personal care products in The Netherlands. The company markets the well-known brands WC Eend and Dubro.
In 2002 the Bolton Group acquired a major shareholding in Pocket, its main supplier of dehumidifiers with production facilities in Andora, Italy. Pocket also markets special tissue for cleaning eyeglasses.
In 2002 the Bolton Group established itself in Switzerland with a new distribution company named Bolton Swiss. Bolton Swiss markets the Group's main international brands such as Rio Mare.
In 2003 the Bolton Group strengthened its European presence by establishing a new distribution company named Bolton Trading, in Slovenia. The company markets the Rio Mare range of products to retail chains and distributors locally as well as in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzigovina, Serbia and Montenegro, Macedonia and Albania.
In 2003 Manetti & Roberts acquired the Chilly, Galeffi and Brioschi brands. Chilly, a historic brand in the Italian feminine hygiene market, expands Bolton's position in this category; Galeffi and Brioschi are popular digestive aid, enjoying a strong competitive position in Italy.
In 2004, Bison International's subsidiary, Griffon, acquired the Kolmat brand for sealant paste products and concluded a distribution agreement for Jitra anti-corrosion and sealant tapes in the Benelux, France, Spain and Portugal.
In 2004, the Bolton Group opened Saupiquet Belgium in Zaventem, Belgium. The company develops the Saupiquet brand in Belgium where it is a leading player in the canned fish market.
In 2005 Bolton Austria was established in Vienna to develop the canned tuna market with Rio Mare, in a country considered to be a door to Eastern Europe. Bolton Austria will also launch several of the Group's main home care brands in Austria.
