I have learned a lot from this Store
Shoe Selling Supervisor (Former Employee), Milwaukee, WI – April 1, 2013
Boston Store has given me a great challenge in my time there. They trusted me enough to let me shine as a mangager and show what I could acheive. For that I thank them. My job now as a Shoe Supervisor has been one of my hardest and most rewarding all at the same time. My crew is my family and everyone calls me mom. So thank you for hiring me and all – more... the wonderful hard working people I have meet along the way. – less

Only For The Willing
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Glendale, WI – February 24, 2013
Pros: the associate discount
Cons: short hours, lack of policy strength, disorganized structure
A normal day in this company includes organizing merchandise and ensuring that sales promotions in your designated area accurate. Being employed in this position taught me how to work as part of a team to achieve similar objectives. In-Store management have been very pleasant and approachable. My co-workers are relentless workers that strive to fulfill – more... both company and personal goals. The challenging area of my work involves enduring customer personalities. The only enjoyable part of my job is learning about my coworkers and assisting them in any way I can. – less

Just a basic retail environment
Shoe Stock Associate (Former Employee), Wauwautosa, WI – January 6, 2013
I did a lot of physical work, I learned how to use a cash register and work at a fast pace. Management and my coworkers were all very nice. The hardest part of the job is keeping up, but anyone can manage,

High-pressure, low-reward job.
Sales associate - department "lead" person (Current Employee), Glendale, WI – December 12, 2012
Pros: on high-volume sale days we are provided with sub sandwiches or pizza.
Cons: low wages with no chance for advancement.
The expectations of the job are high in that, along with all of our other duties, we are constantly pressured to open new accounts, obtain e-mails and garner positive customer feedback reviews for the company. Most of the time the store meets its goals, but if it doesn't, we are chastised at the morning "take five" meetings. Because management works – more... under so much pressure, they do very little to support associates or make them feel appreciated. The hardest part of the job is that the store is so hyper-focused on customer service that it comes at the expense of the associates' dignity. The most enjoyment comes from the pleasant customers that genuinely appreciate your service. (They are usually people who work or have worked in retail and know how hard it is.) The pay is lousy to begin with and if you do manage to get a good review (i.e. open enough new accounts, etc.), you might be rewarded with a pay raise of a whopping 16 cents an hour once a year, and there is no hope whatsoever of advancement. – less

High-pressure, low-reward job with lots of frustration.
Sales associate - department "lead" person (Current Employee), Glendale, WI – December 12, 2012
Pros: sometimes during busy sales we get complimentary sub sandwiches or pizza.
Cons: on high-volume sale days we are required to work 10-hour shifts with only a 30 minute break.
Every week we work different days and different shifts and we usually don't get our weekly schedule until one or two days before the week starts. Management does very little to train or support their associates. Their time is spent appeasing corporate. Co-wrokers are like co-workers anywhere: some are friendly, some are not, some work hard, some do – more... nothing but stand around and complain. The expectations of the job are high in that we are pressured constantly to open new accounts, obtain e-mails and garner positive customer feedback reviews for the company. If the store is meeting their goals we are congratulated at the morning meetings, but if it falls behind in its goals we are chastised and told we aren't trying hard enough. The hardest part of the job is that the store is so hyper-focused on customer service that it comes at the expense of the associates' dignity. The most enjoyment comes from the pleasant customers that actually appreciate your service. – less

Wouldn't recommend
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Wauwatosa, WI – December 6, 2012
Pros: co-workers
Cons: compensation, management, job security, atmosphere
A typical day working at consist of helping customer purchase merchandise and helping with item selection. Management lacked respect and tend to favor certain associates so they didn't work as hard. Some of my co-worker were great. The hardest part of the job was lack of communication and picking up the slack of others. The most enjoyable part of the – more... job was working with some of the nice co-workers. – less

Great place to be introduced to retail, friendly and caring staff and co-workers great managment and an excellent place of hire
Floor Associate (Former Employee), West Bend, WI – October 17, 2012
Pros: caring management, inspiring work force, great incentives and a structured well maintained place of hire
Cons: the only con is their cold break room
Working for the Boston Store was a really positive experience for me. I learned a lot and broke down a lot of personal barriers when relating to staff and co-workers. Management was kind and did nothing but try to help me adjust and continue working there. If I hadn't needed to return to Maine, I wouldn't of ever dreamed of leaving the store! A typical – more... day included opening the register, cleaning and maintaining the Men's department. Management was just a quick call away and were always fast to arrive if I needed help. The hardest part of the job was trying to learn new skills and implement them as fast as I was taught. Often it took me only a few minutes to learn something and for me that was really eye opening when it came to my own personal ability. The most enjoyable part of my job was seeing a happy customer when I was able to manipulate the purchase to save them more money then they thought possible. Often relating what it was like to have an account and card with our store in which a few people were willing to sign up and were greatly pleased by their decision (most people who shopped at our store already had cards) – less

Shoe floor supervisor
Sales associate (Current Employee), Mayfair – September 30, 2012
Pros: commission based salary
The shoe manager at Mayfair is far from a manager. She utilizes poor management skills. She emphasizes a "I am the manager do as I say" approach. She is biased in opinion and will blatantly belittle you to your own co workers. She cycles through floor managers and employees like water. Her last shoe supervisor was her pet but she quit when she had a – more... break down because she could not handle all of the shoe managers responsibilities placed on her. She does not do her own scheduling for the department because this has turned into an epic fail! She will run you until you are dry and can give no more. She does not give you any credit for success either.
While breaks and lunches are mandatory she will ask you to work through them. It is a deplorable looking area after a sale and at times does not maintain OSHA requirements in the stockroom do to mess all over the floor.
Overall store management is excellent, and so are most of the coworkers who care as with any job. It's a difficult job. – less

Its very organized and structured. They give you lots of training so that you wont be confused on the floor. the compensation is overall OK, but if you're there long enough it pays off.

Sales Associate (Former Employee), Glendale, WI – June 11, 2012
Boston store is a nice place to work. a typical day for me was coming in early morning opening up the store and having daily meetings with co workers and managers to prepare us for the day. we all had to meet daily objectives which was selling charge cards which i was pretty good at. i learned how to talk and vibe with customers, i learn the value of – more... merchandise and how to do price change and be a team leader. the managers was fine you can come to them for anything and the co workers was like family. theres no hard part about the job but you can bet you always well enjoy yourself no matter what mood you in. i would love to work for boston store anytime! – less
