Executive Chef, Boyne Resorts-Michigan - January 24, 2016
Boyne Resorts is a group of golf and ski properties across the nation. The 3 Michigan properties are home base for the company and, unfortunately, the worst places to work.
Boyne Mountain is ground zero for the company with regards to money spent on upkeep, new outlets, equipment, etc. The other properties don't get the attention they need.
As a supervisor your day will be spent putting out fires and dealing with issues created by the huge seasonal staff that is basically untrained ( no training budget) and the unrealistic demands of the rollercoaster like business model.
The upper management is not available during peak business periods as they are constantly traveling and enjoying the fruits of your labor.
Boyne might be a good fit for the young professional that wants to learn by making mistakes with someone else's business, but it's not a good place to build your career. The constant staff turn over causes chaos as good managers and staff are either tossed every few seasons for younger and greener workers that work cheaper or they get smart and leave. This causes an environment of " every man for himself" and fear of job loss if you speak up to the wrong person.
Boyne is best known in the Northern Michigan region for its poor treatment of the local workforce and is forced to bring in foreign student workers and recruit staff from outside the area....
Let the worker beware....
