Director of IT will serve in a leadership role and provide the strategic vision for the Boys & Girls Harbor’s information technology (IT) function. Lead, direct and control all activities of the IT department to ensure an integrated and efficient operation of operational and administrative information systems.

*Position Responsibilities*

1. Strategic Planning

  • Develop and implement a technology strategy that will support the Harbor in attaining its organizational goals. Provide leadership and vision for the use of information technology tools and resources at the Harbor
  • Provide technology vision, strategic planning, development and evaluation of the information and technology systems for Boys & Girls Harbor, Inc.
  • Consult with the Executive Director and the Executive team to identify and prioritize the technological needs of the organization.
  • Conduct organizational information technology planning. Develop and establish strategies for the application of technology infrastructure which may include but not limited to:
  • Data management
  • Network capabilities
  • User support programs
  • Migration to common platforms, databases and application tools
  • Maximize the Harbor’s investment in its current technology systems
  • Establish hardware and software standards
  • Security and backup plan
  • Website, Social Media
  • Provide advice and leadership on evaluation, selection, implementation and maintenance of information systems, ensuring appropriate investment in strategic and operational systems
  • Provide responsive advice, counsel, education and service to the Harbor concerning technological issues and trends in the industry
  • Develop and maintain an annual operating budget for Harbor’s network and technology operations (e.g. software, hardware, etc.)
  • Identify, seek and/or advocate for external funding opportunities, grants, partnerships or gifts-in-kind to support the Harbor’s technological needs
  • Develop and maintain a business recovery plan to ensure timely and effective restoration of IT and voice services in the event of a disaster
  • Oversee and evaluate system security and back up procedures. Ensure the security and protection of the Harbor’s data, information systems and equipment.
  • Develop, implement and communicate IT policies and procedures to ensure the protection of the Harbor’s IT assets and the integrity, security and privacy of data entrusted to or maintained by the Harbor
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of all IT processes, records and policies
  • Collaborate with HR to develop and implement user training programs (e.g. Outlook, Project classes and materials)

2. Project Management

  • Plan, lead, coordinate and control all projects related to selection, acquisition, development and installation of major information systems for the Harbor. Evaluate alternatives, perform cost benefit analysis and recommend solutions.
  • Solicit and valuate proposals to assess project feasibility and requirements
  • Manage all technological projects – ensuring that the projects are completed within budget and deadline
  • Develop and communicate IT plans, policies and technology trends throughout the organization
  • Develop and implement technology recyclable program (e.g. Disposal Equipment plan, etc.).

3. Technology Communications

  • Collaborate with Communications to create and execute communications strategies involving the use of any technology
  • Ensure accountability processes for obtaining key input from relevant sources for communications tools

4. Business Process Integration

  • Cultivates partnerships with Fiscal, Business Office, HR, Executive, Development and Harbor Programs to identify and recommend areas of opportunity, current/best practices, recommendations for improvements, and implementation tactics
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to integrate business processes, technology solutions, data and customer service experience to drive innovation and organization-wide efficiencies

5. IT Operations and Services

  • Oversee the technology, voice and security operations of the Harbor, including networks, telephones, databases, computer hardware, website and data management
  • Maintain and evaluate vendor contracts and negotiate terms of agreements for the Harbor. Continuously source the most economical technology solutions for the Harbor.
  • Maintain current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software and resources
  • Maintain log of technology repairs and maintenance and update budget as appropriate
  • Monitor department annual budgets and administer funds according to budget approval
  • Promote and manage relationships between the Harbor and external entities (e.g. government, vendors, researchers and others)
  • Participate and represent the IT function in reviews and audits
  • Ensure technology is accessible and equipped with current hardware and software
  • Administer the security access for all personnel, including staff, interns, and contractors
  • Provide troubleshooting services for existing hardware, software and network
  • Maintain a knowledge and understanding of current and emerging technologies equipment and systems. Keeps current on issues, practices and procedures in technical areas

6. Administrative

  • Maintain a knowledge and understanding of current and emerging technologies equipment and systems. Keeps current on issues, practices and procedures in technical areas
  • Review past and future technology expenses to develop a budget that will address the overall technology strategy
  • Serve as a strong advocate with senior leadership in matters related to information technology
  • Create and foster an environment of idea sharing, cross training and self-sufficiency
  • Coach and train the IT staff to develop a high performing team
  • Prepare and provide progress report to the Executive Director, Board of Directors and others as requested

7. Perform other related tasks as assigned

_Essential Skills and Qualifications_

  • Master’s degree in Technology/Information Systems or related field
  • 10 years of in a senior leadership role managing a technology function and/or information technology team, including strategic planning, project management, and budgeting
  • Experience developing an IT strategic vision in an organization, preferably in an academic setting, incorporating a strong understanding of emerging technologies.
  • Experience leading an organization through the implementation of process and standards, and mitigating the issues that an organization goes through during a major change initiative, is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in business process analysis – minimum of three (3) years working with business partners to understand, document the current state; working with appropriate sponsors and stakeholders to design a sustainable and integrated technology solution to business problems.
  • Demonstrated skill in determining and advocating for priorities in a limited but increasing budget environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with vendor and contracts management
  • Functional knowledge in IT skills assessment, organizational change, process re-engineering, outsourcing, project management and financial services applications
  • Proven project management and governance skills, with a track record of completing projects successfully on time and on budget
  • Experience with and understanding of business requirements and the process of translating them into well-engineered and integrated technical solutions; attention to detail is essential
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with the capability to deliver sensitive information in a succinct manner
  • Proficient in managing network, hardware and software applications
  • Excellent organizational, and time management skills
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership and coaching skills. Advanced skill in team building and management is required.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including some occasional weekends and evenings

_Preferred Skills and Qualifications_

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with large corporate IT operations, major IT programs, systems integration and technical architecture at enterprise and inter-enterprise levels
