the most enjoyable part of the job
Psychology Intern (Former Employee), Hartsville, SCNovember 6, 2013
The most enjoyable part of this job was working with the children. A lot of the times they would work against me or there would be a few that didn't want to listen and were determined not to like me. However, with time and patience all of them eventually grew to love the days that I came to work with them and that was amazing.

This is a place of temporary employment, not a career builder. Downsizing has been a focal point for the last few years and under the current management I cant foresee a bright future for this organization.

Enjoyed the many opportunities to help assist a youth with fun activities, homework, and someone to listen to their concerns.
Special Events Coordinator and Leader (Former Employee), Newport News, VAOctober 27, 2013
Pros: great trips
Cons: all positive
Overall the co-workers were great. I was able to experience certain things through donations that I wouldn't otherwise given much thought (fishing and attended race car show). A typical day at work is assuring the youth complete their homework. Patience is the key when working with adolescents as well as proper time management. However, at the end of – more... the day if the parents and the youth are smiling than that's all the enjoyment I need. – less

Good, fulfilling work, friendly environment, everyone is extremely kind and patient. It is a great place to work!
Summer program staff/ supervisior (Former Employee), London, ONSeptember 9, 2013
Pros: morally fulfilling work, you know that what you are doing is good for the community, the fun kids and co workers
Cons: no compensation for volunteers but starting pay could be better, but it is non-profit, and to work with a bunch of kids, you need to put your full attention on them all day, keep your eyes open on them all day and prepare to handle a lot of arguments and conflicts, that will make you exhausted at the end of the day for sure
Management is great, and working there helped me find new and creative ways to reach the students. When I first started, and was having trouble, my manager (who left soon after) literally told me "Just do what you think is right!', when asked for advice. The atmosphere was beautiful! Organization & good communication are key in order to be successful. – more... Kids and co workers were extremely friendly and fun to work with. – less

Youth Counselor (Former Employee), Trenton, NJAugust 19, 2013
Pros: snacks, trips, events
Cons: no breaks, longer hours
A typical work day for me was always interesting. I learned new things from the children. They taught me new dances, beats, games, etc. The management was very good, there was rarely any chaios. My co-workers were nice, they helped out whenever their help was needed, no hesitation. The hardest part of the job was dealing with stubborn children and parents. – more... The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing the kids have fun n run until their tired. – less
