Rec. Aide (Former Employee) – Val Verde, CA – July 25, 2014
A typical day at The Val Verde boys and Girls Club involves helping kids with homework after school followed by some outside sports activities. I learned to multitask while the kids are outside for a bit with another staff, I proceed inside with some phone calls for trips, filing paper work or faxing. Sometimes while the supervisor is out I have to manage and make choices but for the most part my co-workers and I are a great team, we help each other with what ever one another needs. The hardest part is to gather all permission slips in an decide witch kids are going to be able to attend witch trips. The most enjoyable part about the job is everything, the smiles, the laughs and the great experience I have gained is amazing.
Free lunches in summer, lots of fun trips to staff
Youth Development Specialist (Former Employee) – Riverside, CA – July 27, 2017
A typical day at work involves homework help, teaching a lesson on a certain subject, outside play, reading, an enrichment activity, free play. You are equipped with a walkie-talkie you can barely hear anything on. I learned a lot about classroom management and supervision. Coworkers were great, but they had some drama amongst themselves. I guess that is to be expected when everyone is so young (early 20s on average.) The hardest part of the job is getting a reign on the more "active" children, which was near impossible at times and extremely stressful. Almost left me in tears at times. The most enjoyable and rewarding part of the job was developing a relationship with the children, when I stopped working here I sure missed my kids!
The children, coworkers are kind, supervisor was amazing
School Kids' Connection Mentor (Current Employee) – Fayetteville, AR – July 26, 2017
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Fayetteville means well. Some kids really enjoy going to the Club and being enrolled in after school and summer programs. However, I see a lot of bullying take place and this is very unfortunate. I love seeing the kids everyday, but I do not like seeing them treat one another and the staff with disrespect. Structure needs to be added to make the Club a safer and more fun environment.
Fun Workplace that allows me to give back to the community
volunteer service (Former Employee) – Statesboro, GA – July 26, 2017
A great environment where I was able to touch young people's lives who are less fortunate then most people. These children opened my eyes and allowed me to notice that no matter what line of work I am in, I want to be able to touch lives in a positive way.
Game Room Supervisor (Current Employee) – Davie, FL – July 26, 2017
Great place for growth and experience with children. The Boys and Girls Club has helped me transform tremendously as far as my work with children goes. Also, I have multiple opportunities to grow with my role in management. My creativity has grown as well, working with these kids and the staff here has helped me to open up my mind to being more creative.
KidStop Site Assistant (Current Employee) – Valparaiso, IN – July 25, 2017
Working for the Boys and Girls club has been extremely rewarding. It has given me many successful attributes that I could not have had without being employed. A typical day at work would be to watch over the children and make sure they are having fun but also safe. I have learned skills as far as confidence, communication, being vigilant, and safety. Management has its pros and cons. I feel as though we are not really listened to. Kidstop program director is great. She really understands and tries to help us. Communication could be better, but she is a great person to work for. The hardest part of the job honestly is the kids. Sometimes it is easy to let them get away with anything, but you have to remember, you're not there to be their best friend. You're there to have fun with them of course, but you're also there for their well being and safety. The most enjoyable part, even though I said it is the hardest, is also the kids. The make the job worth while. They really know how to turn your whole day around for the better without even realizing it.
Fun place to work. Never a dull moment working with kids. Management helps you move up in the company. You work with the school year, and if you want to work summer they either have summer camp or help locate you to a year round location. Good job for a college student, or someone wanting to work with kids. The hardest part would probably be having to remember certain things from elementary to help kids, like the "box method" or the cycle of a frogs life.
Worked here from 2004-2007. Very friendly and inviting atmosphere. Staff enjoyed working with youth as well as each other. Everyone respected one another and provided a safe and fun atmosphere for all the youth.
Volunteer (Former Employee) – Los Angeles, CA – July 25, 2017
I would get free food. The people that work at the Boys and Girls Club are so friendly and make everyday a great place to work at. The supervisor was such a great person and was flexible with what days you are able to work.
Technology Consultant/Athletic Support (Former Employee) – El Dorado, AR – July 22, 2017
The Boys and Girls Club allows you to forget about all the problems as an adult and enjoy time with the kids. It does have its day to day paperwork but one must not forget why your there. You will always have those kids who have a special place in your heart.
