I really enjoyed working at the Hammon after school program which was through the Boys and Girls club of America. I enjoyed being able to work with people of all ages accomplish things. I love being around people and socializing. I want to be a teacher when I graduate college, so working at the Hammon after school program was the perfect fit for me.

Kids were...a bit rough to work with. They are very hard at listening to you, even the older ones. Awesome manager and work team though.

I worked from 9am to 2pm every day except field trips. We took field trips to museums, skating rings and the pool. These trips where every Thursday. Other then that a typical day was planned out with a schedule as to when activities where supposed to get completed and for how long.

Do what you love, and shape the hearts and minds of the youth
Director of Art/ Club Care Member (Former Employee), Saint Peters, MOJuly 14, 2014
Pros: very flexible schedule, fun atmosphere, spread joy to the youth of america
Cons: low paying job, no benefits, no full-time available
The Boys and Girls Club is a labor of love. If you love working with children, and shaping them by the skills you can provide them, then the BGC is a great place to be. An artist can use his talents to show children the joy of art, and help grow them to become artists themselves. A chef can help teach children the importance of health. An athlete can – more... show how fitness changes lives. However, there is little growth at this establishment. It is a great place for volunteers, and a great place for the financially secure, who have time to give to such a trade. It is also a very good part-time job. – less

Director of Education (Current Employee), Ferndale, MIJune 13, 2014
Pros: flexible hours
Cons: not enough hours or pay
Playing with Kids all day. Trying to get them to work on academic things.
I've learned how to manage a large group of students.
My co-workers do not work with me often.
Hardest part of my job is not having enough co-workers.
I enjoy working with my students and teaching them new things.

Art Teacher/Counselor/Lunch Server/Volunteer (Former Employee), Ruston, LAMarch 25, 2014
Typical day is very busy with children. Constant supervision is required at all times. I learned that every child needs a positive role model and attention and someone to influence them in the right direction. Management and all the co-workers are great and all interacts well with each other in supervising the children. Helping children is a rewarding – more... feeling and I love this occupation. – less

Pros: fun and enjoyable
Cons: nothing negative
I had the opportunity to work with some great children who were fun to be around and made me a better person. At first I didn't know what to expect but the kids made the experience so much better. Everyone involved was very positive and supportive. I advise everyone to volunteer at there nearest Boys and Girls Club.

Pros: enjoyable working environment
Day begins with children in the cafeteria. Throughout the day there are activities the kids would do to keep them busy during the program. I learned a lot about organization, it is extremely important when working with children. Management was good, my co-workers and myself enjoyed the job. The hardest part of the job would be the heat due to working – more... during the summer program. – less

Great Kids
Proctor (Former Employee), Adelanto, CAFebruary 20, 2014
Pros: spending time with kids
Cons: i don't think i have one.
Watched over Children from the beginning of there day at the Boys and Girls Club until they left, out in the yard and in the classroom. Helped with homework, lead classroom activities, monitored them at play. What I learned, kids are fun, they have there little groups, some feel included others not. Best part is when I seen them at there actual schools, – more... they greeted me warmly. Management got in and played with the kids also, nice interaction. Co-workers came and went, but always pleasant to be around. the hardest part, watching the kids who felt left out, I would befriend them and get them to join in. The most enjoyable part was the kids, they love to see familiar faces day after day. – less
