The Brickman Group offers landscape design and maintenance services for college campuses, municipal properties, sports facilities, and retail establishments. It provides sports turf services such as field design and consulting, irrigation, mowing, and field maintenance for MLB and the Olympic Games. Serving thousands of clients, the company has also taken on such special projects as repairing New Orleans City Park's irrigation system after Hurricane Katrina. Founded in 1939 by Theodore Brickman, the group has more than 160 branch offices in about 30 US states. Private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners owns a majority shareholding of the company.
Brickman has been growing by acquiring smaller competitors as they are forced to fold under the conditions of a turbulent economy. In 2009, it obtained D. Foley Landscape, a regional landscaping business based in Massachusetts. The acquisition solidified Brickman's position in Boston and the surrounding areas.
In mid-2008, Brickman acquired Stiles Landscape Company from Stiles Corporation, a real estate development and investment firm. Brickman integrated Stiles Landscape, which catered to the Florida market, into its own operations throughout 2008. Earlier, Brickman increased its presence in the northwestern US when it snatched up two smaller competitors based in Oregon and Washington. – less
