About Briggs Equipment

The business at Briggs Equipment is picking up. The company is the largest distributor of NACCO's Yale-brand forklifts. It supplies construction and industrial equipment by other OEMs, such as Taylor heavy lift trucks, Trackmobile railcar movers, and Upright and Genie aerial platforms. It also rents and sells used equipment, provides fleet management, – more... as well as technical and consulting services. The company maintains a 5,000-unit rental fleet and a parts inventory valued at $5-plus million. Briggs Equipment operates through some 15 locations, across the southeastern US, Texas, and Mexico. Founded in 1896, the company became a standalone business of diversified holding corporation Sammons Enterprises in 1996.

Under Sammons Enterprises, Briggs Equipment has expanded its work to five business sectors: Briggs Contractor Rental; Briggs Rail Equipment, Briggs Used Equipment; Briggs Fleet Management; and Briggs Industrial Equipment. Its diversified position has enabled the company to weather the economic downturn that hurt mainstay construction companies and manufacturers.

Regaining momentum, in mid-2010 it managed to lure business with oil and gas services company Baker Hughes. Baker Hughes agreed to purchase all equipment through Briggs Equipment; Briggs Equipment will provide complete fleet management, including acquisition, maintenance, billing, and information management. The company in fall 2010 also signaled a new image by launching a revamped website for its contractor rental unit. – less
