About Bright Horizons Family Solutions
With Bright Horizons Family Solutions, kids learn while parents earn. The firm operates hundreds of workplace child care centers throughout the US and in Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, India, and the UK. Bright Horizons offers day care, emergency back-up for when regular care arrangements fall through, before-and after-school care, and vacation care, – more... as well as summer camps, elementary schools, and college admissions counseling services. Most of its 770+ centers are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, which generally uses more stringent standards than those required by states. Bright Horizons is owned by an affiliate of Bain Capital but has filed to go public.
Bain Capital was among the first investors in Bright Horizons when it began as a private company in 1986. Bright Horizons co-founder Roger Brown once worked for Bain & Company, a consulting firm created by the same people who started Bain Capital.
After spending $1.3 billion to take Bright Horizons private in 2008, Bain decided to send the company out into the world again and filed a public offering in 2012.
Bright Horizons operates child care centers for many of the world's largest corporations, hospitals, universities, and government agencies including television networks CBS and NBC, the NBA, and Procter & Gamble. Its programs range from those designed for infants and toddlers to school age children.
Bright Horizon's Military Family Program partners with about two dozen government institutions on the local, state, and federal levels to provide its services to military families. The company also partners with the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies to help military families pay for child care.
Many of Bright Horizons' centers are employer-sponsored, meaning the corporation or other entity provides space or some start-up and operating costs. While Bright Horizons employs a sales force to find new corporate sponsors, it has also grown by opening new child care centers for its existing clients, by assuming the management of other worksite child care centers, and through acquisitions such as UK child care provider Nurseryworks and the Colorado-based child and eldercare center operator WorkOptions Group.
The group has been working to expand its Tuition Advisory Services program through acquisitions such as the early 2011 buy of EdAssist. Tuition Advisory Services works with employers to help them design and implement tuition reimbursement programs. EdAssist's web-based software platform was already being used by the company to help it deliver its services; the acquisition of EdAssist brings the software services in-house, bringing all the services under Tuition Advisory Services umbrella.
The company manages child care programs for infants to school-age children. Additionally the company provides back-up care solutions for children and elders, college counseling services, and an array of other work/life solutions for working families. When school is out, those children can enroll in Bright Horizons centers that offer back-up care for school holidays and closing days in a summer day-camp setting for children up to age 12. – less
