Hands off
Senior Systems Engineer (Current Employee) –  Greensboro, NCMay 19, 2017
Hands off management style that allows you the ability to get the job done. There is a team environment within the sales groups where everyone pushes towards quota goals.

Able to work from home 3 days per week, management was virtually non-existent. Company sold to 3 different parties and neither party is keeping the existing support teams.

A flexible work environment with some of the most interesting, intellectually stimulating individuals I have ever worked with. It was an absolute pleasure working for the Americas Marketing Team at Brocade, a true "dream job".

Software Engineer (Current Employee) –  San Jose, CAMay 3, 2017
It used to be a good workplace until the acquisition of Broadcom and now not a good scope of the products roadmap for all its suite of products getting acquired by different companies.

Regional Sales Manager (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAMay 1, 2017
Super slow moving and FC product is incumbent in most IT shops. Partnerships make it very difficult to affect your outcome and ultimately you're paid lower because of it.

Great company culture and pay. Brocade is currently being acquired by Broadcom. They intend to sell off all the IP networking business and keep the SAN products. Future is uncertain.

Technical Support Engineer (Former Employee) –  San Jose, CAApril 10, 2017
Developers responded to supportability issues and integrated diagnostic tools into the fabric OS. Excellent cooperation between departments. But product line advances can still be followed be a discontinuation. Overall, great support organization.
Pros
Good teamwork across departments

Swings in management's strategic focus from fibre channel storage to data center to SDN to edge of the network/wireless, now being acquired with other parts of the business being sold.

Everything was fine until my division's largest customer went Bankrupt
Technical Support III (Former Employee) –  Houston, TXMarch 28, 2017
My division was a recent accusation and was growing fast. Then the 2008 crash hit, and our largest customer went bankrupt. Root cause was the repeal of the separation of Commercial and Investment Banking. See, root cause is not limited to technical issues.
Pros
Hmm, bagels.
Cons
Manager was a former Developer, not former Support.

Engineering Lab Service & Customer Cabling lead (Former Employee) –  San Jose, CAMarch 27, 2017
My manager at the time was amazing. Always pushing us forward to learn more skills; technical skills like Linux, Windows OS, networking infrastructure; management skills like time management, risk management and procurement. This was a great position for me to learn and absorb knowledge about this industry.

Sales Director - Texas Enterprise Region (Current Employee) –  Oklahoma, TXFebruary 27, 2017
Brocade Communications is being acquired, so all current characteristics will no longer be valid. Previously, it was a very energetic, forward thinking company.

Senior Pricing Manager (Current Employee) –  San Jose, CAFebruary 19, 2017
In the early years at Brocade, the company was innovative and moved at a fast pace. Employees were totally engaged and supportive of management. The company acted as a large start-up. I enjoyed the early years. As we grew, the company became more and more like a large old company.
Pros
Good people
Cons
too big

Great Products, great people, limited vision
Systems Engineer II (Former Employee) –  Alpharetta, GAFebruary 14, 2017
The Storage Area Networking products offered by Brocade are without peer. Same is true for their Fiber Channel Extension products.

The most pleasant part of the job at Brocade was meeting and understanding the genius of the folks who design their products. The most difficult was watching the sometimes inept management burn up the people that had made the company great.

Having said that, there still remain a large number of dedicated folks that continue to produce some of the finest products in their sector.

.
Pros
Ability to do what it takes to solve problems to enhance customer service.
Cons
Wicked bad politics. So bad that they get in the way of greater success for the company.

Needs new leadership
Software Technical Leader (Current Employee) –  San Jose, CAFebruary 10, 2017
Brocade has been playing the catch up game in the industry the past few years. This in turn reflects on the engineering who are working furiously to catch up and deliver things at a cray rate.

This approach has pros and cons. With the fast paced work, an engineer also needs the right tools to deliver quality content.
Sadly tools are lacking in Brocade and to deliver something of quality one has to put in an in-ordinate time to make up for the lack of tools and infrastructure necessary for the developer.

There is lot of space to pick and deliver what you like but it takes more than just engineering to do that. If you possess such skills then you will thrive at Brocade.
Pros
Pickup anything and run!
Cons
You have to do it all, very less facilitation from mgmt
