Amazing management support but very few avenues for advancement
Manager (Current Employee), New York –
Pros: management is very open and offers great advice
Cons: long hours, and horrible 'return' policy, make it impossible to tell people 'no'
Great company, great products and supportive management. The employees seem to have this sense of entitlement that is unrivaled. In most stores, they put in minimal effort and expect maximum results, They often complain that they are not making $ and that the company is to blame instead of being proactive and taking initiative. The most difficult part – more...  of the job is getting the veterans to accept change despite highly involved coaching and assisted development initiatives. Their inflexibility has been the cause of a lot of stores not making their goal and subsequently managers do not make their anticipated bonus. It is especially troubling in the union stores where the union does not allow dismissal for poor sales performance or persistent and disruptive attitude issues. – less

Company rich in values
Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee), Portland, OR –
Pros: tradition
Cons: distant from corporate offices
The corporate office in New York holds tradition and values as most important. I would definitely say that working at Brooks Brothers is an enriching experience.

Fast pace work environment with high product knowledge demand
Floor manager (Current Employee), Costa Mesa, CA –
Pros: benefits, 401k matching, store discount
Cons: high stress levels, little promotional opportunities, unstable schedule
Brooks Brothers is a traditional clothing company offering everything from casual outerwear to conservative business attire. The core competency of this company is its focus on quality, value, and customer relations. A typical day on the sales floor will provide you with ample customer interactions including a main focus on selling and customer follow – more...  through. Brooks Brothers has very high standards in developing long term customer relationships and the customer understands their importance in this company and the value of quality customer service. The company itself has transitioned over the years to incorporate a new management style that focuses more on sales and achieving and/or superseding sales figures and other objectives. Managers themselves are very administrative and have limited involvement in store floor functions. All members of the sales floor are expected to sell in all store departments and constantly update themselves in new company policies, product information, and procedures with or without the assistance of the management team. Co-workers become your best friends and the company culture is very interpersonal. This is not a high-end clothing store. If you do not enjoy hustling and sometimes taking on multiple tasks at once and a high degree of sales pressure, you need not apply. Your pay is derived from a draw commission structure, which in other words means you need to achieve an average sales figure per week,(about $7,000/week), in order to make any commission at all. During slower seasons and a saturated sales floor you it forces you to be aggressive. The most enjoyable part of the job for me is being a problem solver. There is an abundance of information to know in this job which you will continue learning for years to come. – less

I liked having my own space to work
packer (Former Employee), Enfield CT –
Pros: cook outs
Cons: temp position
I liked that this job was face paced and job detailed. I liked being able to ask anyone if I had any questions about anything. The only thing I did'nt like was they would'nt let us keep enough supplies at our benches. Which made it harder when we had to work fast.

Productive and fun workplace
Sales Support (Former Employee), Manhasset, NY –
Pros: environment, co workers, union
Cons: advancement
Brooks was an amazing space. I wish I would have been able to stay within the company, and move forward. Most of the sales associates were Older folks who had worked there for years. If your trying to market to a new crowd, they started a sportswear line, you need younger associates to establish a relationship with these new and younger clients. I didn't – more...  feel there was enough room for growth. Other then that I enjoyed my time working at Brooks Brothers. The discount was awessommee as well. – less
