merchandiser (Current Employee) –  Brevard County, FLNovember 16, 2015
Good company, behind in the times and management that does not do a good job of communicating to the people below them. Very good co-workers and time flies by with all the stops you have a day. Not much physical work and can become boring.

Driver Check-In and Accounting (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAAugust 15, 2015
Daily work day started at 10:00 A.M. and usually did not leave work till 9:00 P.M. The hours was not the problem, just did not want to be working for a company with such bad attributes.

Delivery Driver (Current Employee) –  Richmond, VAJune 6, 2015
Early start to beat the crowded masses and heat. Maneuvering a Hand dolly, stacked to the ceiling with fragile glass alcoholic beverages, in convenience stores so small even the roaches have trouble squeezing by you. Tons of potholes, boxes, trash to trip and injure yourself. You break it, you pay for it. You do anything to upset customers, your fired. Broken equipment, broken trucks. Mechanics that really don't give a szhit. Orders are always messed up, too many of this or too less of that. No union.
Pros
Hardcore physical/mental workout
Cons
Pay, "I don't care" culture. Do anything wrong, it comes out of your paycheck.

Not the best of choices for those looking for a rewarding and stable, career.
Office Personnel. (Former Employee) –  West Palm BeaachMay 6, 2015
This place is La crème de la crème, when it comes to possibly one of the worst places to work for. Starting all the way up at the top with the owner of the company, VP of People and Business (probably the most vulgar, and unprofessional person, that I had the misfortune of knowing) to the rest of upper management. There was absolutely no leadership, order or structure in this company. You could actually feel the negativity on the air. Most employees felt helpless, and impotent, by the lack of support from the upper management team.
The whole building needs to be remodel, most of the office furniture is outdated (from the 80’s) there was a huge problem with mold in the walls and ac vents, due to the roof leaking all over the place, including the server room. Many people suffered from non-stop allergies and runny noses, due to the mold problem.
Pay raises are no-existent, even if you get a great performance review.
The Health insurance left a lot to be desired. In-house promotions are not very common; they will bring people from the street, or friends/pass co-workers of the upper management team. The computer system is outdated, due to the company not wanting to spend more than needed. Drivers received refurbished handhelds and printers, which didn’t work most of the time. The warehouse was dirty; the delivery trucks were mostly, old trucks. Regular employees were given old computer, and monitors. The turnover rate while I worked there was extremely high. Especially after the Upper management team took over. Even employees in high positions, were discarded, in a ferocious
  more... way.
Overall, there’s a very small amount of good, honest people still trying to survive, while working there. And I wish them the best of luck. I personally, after having experienced the work environment at Brown Distributing; I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody looking for a stable and sane, career.

recruiter (Former Employee) –  west palm beach, flMarch 25, 2015
Lack of organization and structure. Company morale is very low and almost everyone hates working there. I have seen and heard of several people walking around the office crying or upset due to foul language being used against them. There is absolutely no opportunity to grow or move into a new role even if you're qualified for the job. Just wearing the wrong color to work one day could discount you for any promotional opportunities. Any new ideas for improvement to a process in the company are shot down immediately with a "we're not ready for that yet" even though the company has been around for decades now. They are currently in the process of doing a mass lay off in the sales department and it has a lot of employees on edge. Every day you walk in fearing that it may be your last day. The computer systems are outdated and will experience many problems with your email account working prohibiting you from doing your work efficiently. The building is very old and in need of serious renovations and all of the office furniture is used and damaged. You will even have to bring your own office supplies there is a shortage of that. This just goes to show you how much the owner of the company truly cares about the company and his own employees. That is why they have been for over 100 years now and are still only located in florida and richmond, va, they should be a national company by now. If you are a college graduate you will most likely be more educated than your supervisor due to every manager in every department having just an associates degree or high school diploma which leads  more... to many unprofessional decisions on their part because they do not have the educational requirments to be in that position. Warehouse and delivery driver employees are treated terribly and I really feel bad for them. The pay is also very terrible which makes recruiting for this company even harder, they do not try to be competitive at all. Turnover is extremely high and in many departments you find that the most tenured employee has been there for just 6 months or less.  less

Revolving Door!!!!! I watched 12 employees quit in 6 months
Order Selector (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAAugust 25, 2014
I've worked in construction, retail, and many other different warehouses, but Brown Distributing is the WORST job of all. Warehouse associates work the hardest, the most hours, but get payed the least. You're on your feet, walking, lifting, bending, and stacking pallets the whole time. If you take a warehouse position, expect to work at least 13 hour shifts. We would start at 2pm, and wouldn't finish until 6:00 am sometimes... NO EXAGGERATION!!!. I've witnessed an employee have a heart attack, an employee have a stroke, and another employee have serious respiratory issues, all due to the long hard hours and harsh work conditions. The higher level management does not care at all. We have addressed this issue in every company meeting. The truck drivers have just as many complaints as the warehouse. Don't even waste time applying! This company is not worth your hard work!
Pros
you get to smell beer the whole shift lol
Cons
long hours( 2pm- 5 or 6am), hard work, little pay (commission after 90 days w/ no ot), horrible management, revolving door!

Long Hours and Unorganized
Delivery Driver (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAJuly 28, 2014
You can be guaranteed to work long, hard hours. A lot of lifting, twisting and turning. Very little training, so you are on your own with learning anything. Extreme issues with the warehouse and loading your truck. Supervisors/Managers need to take a little time with new hires so they understand the entire work day.
Pros
i can't think of any....sorry!
Cons
long, hard hours and very little recognition. work most holidays!

route assitant (Current Employee) –  Austin, TXFebruary 17, 2014
brown disrtibuting is an worldwide leader in the beer industry it has taught me alot of diffent things that can be used elsewhere in the feild, ive learned the procedures for preparing trucks in the a.m, the use of downstacking product in a fast and effecient manner, also has made me aware of safety throughout the workplace on how to be safe on and off of a job, co workers there are wonderful outgoing and structured willing to do the job as detailed as possible and not wanting to cheat themselves as well as allow anyone else to cheat themselves as well they want each individual to learn the trades for the company and to be able to grow with it as well, really not a hard part on the job just learning the procedures and differnt work ethics can be a little frustrating at times but overall is just the same as any partuicular job in that manner, and the most enjoyable part of the job was getting the call to start work for them theres nothing more enjoyable then that
Pros
meeting new people, traveling over the city to view different sceneries
Cons
extreme work conditions at times, and long work hours

brown was one of my favorite because of all the opportunities it gives you to make extra money, I would work special event like music concerts or fairground and get paid a different rate per hour for that. I learned how to read the expired code dates on brown distributing product.
Pros
free products on hollidays.
