About BURNS & WILCOX
Burns & Wilcox, part of the Kaufman Group, provides wholesale property/casualty insurance products and brokerage services including underwriting management. Product lines include general and professional liability, personal auto and homeowners, and hard-to-place specialty coverage for directors and officers. The company operates some 40 offices in about two – more... dozen states across the US. One of the largest independent-owned insurance wholesalers in the country, the company markets products through some 26,000 agencies. The late Herbert W. Kaufman, father of CEO Alan Kaufman, founded Burns & Wilcox in 1969.
The company can be likened to a warehouse for insurance policies, which it markets to and places with independent agents, targeting large and middle-market accounts. It represents about 250 insurance carriers. Burns & Wilcox has grown over the years through organic strategies and acquisitions.
The company expanded internationally in 2008 by forming a partnership with London-based Lloyd's broker C.J. Coleman & Company. The joint venture, named Coleman and Kaufman, is a provider of wholesale reinsurance in the UK market. – less
