Industry Leader, strong-growth, global consumer products manufacturer with an immediate opening. The Senior Extrusion Engineer will work as a "Hands-On" engineer in the area of plastics extrusion, compounding, extrusion process development, polymer materials testing, and characterization. You will be responsible for the design and implementation of robust extrusion processes as well as providing technical support in the development and improvement of plastics extrusion components. You will assess and mitigate manufacturing deficiencies in the extrusion area. You will have full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments.
You will be responsible for the purchase or design of equipment that meets standards of the company. You will provide the technical input to plan, design, develop and validate the extrusion manufacturing processes for new products working with cross-sectional teams. You will also create processes and activities within the functional area, and works with the Engineering & Plant Leadership Staffs to support the development of new business and maintenance of current businesses. This position is the driver for new and improved extrusion processes. Identify and troubleshoot process issues. This position performs analysis on manufacturing methods and troubleshoots manufacturing issues. This is a "Hands-On", "on-the-floor" position of leadership and problem solving! Located in the Miami, FL area!
You will act as the Extrusion Operations Program Manager and collaborate with the R&D, Commercial teams and other Operations areas. You must lead and ensure appropriate communication and coordination of activities between the functional groups and required for the project's success. You will engineer mentor less senior staff and serve as an adviser to management on technical issues.
You will prepare unit cost estimates and make recommendations on equipment needs. You are accountable for justification and cost control of capital expenditures. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving extrusion process performance in manufacturing areas. Develops performance standards, identifies the customer needs (internal or external) and contract requirements. Develops project cost estimates, projected schedules, and resource requirements, and manages them throughout the project. You will work with the Engineering Leadership to assist the development of engineering, product and platform design and performance parameters, technical documentation, and subcontractor specifications. You will conceive, develop and implement equipment/tooling and support the installation qualification activities.
You must be able to identify project tasks, communicate plans, develop plans and then implement plans. You should have experience working in cross-functional teams environment. Looking for Lean/Six Sigma problem solving skills.
BS degree in Engineering (Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science preferred). An Master's degree is a plus. You should have 10+ years of polymer extrusion engineering experience. Any medical device manufacturing experience would be a plus. You should have knowledge of manufacturing & distribution capabilities, process improvements, determine root cause, project costing methods, assembly procedures, bill of material structure,.
You should have a working knowledge of extrusion manufacturing, batch reaction processes, materials properties/characterization. You should have the ability to develop resource models for projects. Project management and technical leadership experience is preferred. You should have the ability to travel about 30-40%.
