The deep recession created a drastic decline in demand for construction products, especially cement, which was down some 60% from pre-recession demand. CalPortland was forced to shutdown production and cut jobs at its oldest facility in 2009.
In 2010 Allen Hamblen, who has been with CalPortland for some two decades, most recently as EVP and COO, was named CEO. He succeeded James Repman, who retired.
