Data Management Manager (Current Employee) –  Long Island City, NYFebruary 21, 2017
Management can be a bit dysfunctional and things get heard through the grapevine before they are announced. Office can be a bit loud. But all in all a great place to work. Cultures and working environment is friendly.
Pros
Working with really nice people

Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Scottsdale, AZDecember 22, 2016
typical day at work would be fixing the racks and then talking to clients asking them what they are looking for and if i may help.Answering phone calls and going through the data base to see if their are specific clothings in other stores. I learned how to communicate with others and understand not to pressure the clients because they dislike it. Management was not the best we went through two different managers but my coworkers where amazing they pushed each other to reach our goals on sales. The hardest part of job was working with clients who just tried on the clothes and never purchased the items. The most enjoyable part of the job was helping others feel beautiful and having amazing conversations with the clients that you will keep with you forever.

Warehouse Operator (Former Employee) –  Long Island City, NYNovember 10, 2016
Well run store/online based women's boutique in Long Island City, NY. Typical day consists of inventory checks, packaging up products, help load and unload merchandise via UPS. Biweekly analysis of price of products. Very multicultural staff. Management split between three people, making it hard to understand who is truly in charge. On a corporate level, owners and higher ups kept changing hands.
Pros
Location
Cons
Short breaks, repetitive tasks

Don't Walk.... Run away from this Company
Not Applicable (Former Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 29, 2016
DM and GZm quit within my first two months of work . Upper Management and Corporate were dismissive, devisive and frankly disgusting. New Upper management was so focused on standard that the constant brow beating made managers too tired to facilitate other parts of their job. One upper management corporate was abusive on several occasions to two of our managers. This environment was a first for me.

A high turnover of managers, illegal terminations, and a " blame game" attitude all while trying to help salespeople achieve impossible commissions at the end of the month based on high goals and sales per hour for hard work.

Their time in existence as a company is likely limited
Pros
Discount
Cons
Everything else unhealthy environment

Full time employee
Full time sales (Former Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 24, 2016
So they have changed commission dropped out employee discount and want us to sell subpar pieces at high end prices. I honestly enjoy selling the job is not hard but corporate is out of their mind - they would rather pay less for less than a bit more for quality in employees. They care about random nonessential stuff - wearing the brand for visits, hats on stands verse blocks that look like stands, ect but let major company wide policies fail. They have a bad habit of not paying vendors and it is visible online. My manager is great but corporate is a cluster treat it like the bs job it is and don't plan to move up as it is not solid
Pros
Team, great breaks
Cons
Pay, discount, and corporate

Accounts Payable Specialist (Former Employee) –  Long Island City, NYSeptember 1, 2016
When working here best to put on a thick skin and build up a sense of humor. Necessary when working in a company that really can use a shift in mood to go along with its brand.
Pros
nothing more to include
Cons
location is inconvenient

manager (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJanuary 15, 2016
Calypso has a Mission and Values statement that is posted in every store's stockroom. The problem is, the company does NOT treat their employees with the values they claim to embrace. Corporate culture is negative and disorganized. The company cannot make one decision and stick with it. There is a lack of respect for the employees in the retail locations. Operating a facility in reality is MUCH different from theory, and certainly from the "Ivory Tower" mentality, which is in place. Also, while touting themselves as a "Luxury Brand", the quality continues to plummet as the price does not. Cashmere is much thinner than it used to be and pills very easily, embellished garments are now garish vs. the sophisticated pieces they were in the past. The pay structure was recently changed for commissioned employees, making commission nearly impossible. This has resulted in a loss of valuable sales staff. A large portion of store's management has fled the company in the past 2 years due to lack of integrity within the company.
Pros
employee discount
Cons
poor corporate culture

A friendly and environment for growth and customer relation
Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Southampton, NYNovember 20, 2015
A typical day at work for a sales associate as my self at Calypso St. Barth in Southampton, NY would be clocking into work with a decent amount of time before 10 am. After clocking in the associates are responsible, a long with the key holder, to open to store. This process in involves checking the inventory and sales floor that they match the criteria for merchandising. The associates and the key holder then open the drawers to the register and count the drawers in and make sure we have change available for customers later. We would clean the sales floor and then make sure that all inventory available is put on the floor for the customer to view. The hardest part of my last job during the day would be maintaining the floor after a big sale. I most enjoyed my co-workers at Calypso St. Barth in Southampton, they were helpful in advancing my person-to-person skills and communication skills. The part I enjoyed most about my last job was the product knowledge and the environmentally sustainable ways the clothing was made and marketed to the, customer.
Pros
Commission based salary with hourly pay, Company advancement

Sales lead (Former Employee) –  Califorina,December 5, 2014
READ THIS VERY VERY CAREFUL. Think twice before working for calypso at Barth. They say they are the best but aren't. Lack of communication with store manager, and assistant.basically it's the manager way of the high way.especailly the one in Costa Mesa the assistant there is very demeaning to all the employee and need to be FIRED and the store manager can't communicate with her staff efficiency DONT KNOW Y SHE IS IN HER all of the sales leads had left the company and this location cause of the standards and expectations not to mention the lack of sincerely and communcation. Any other job would be better then working there. SO THINK TWICE THERE AND DONT FOLLOW FOR THEM BEING NICE CAUSE IT SUPER FAKE. But behind you they will talk about u and put u down and talk about u to other on the store. Been there .
