An enjoyable workplace, with a good salary, benefits etc.
Temporary/on-call letter Carrier (Current Employee), G.T.A/Mississauga/Brampton – May 16, 2012
Pros: it is a good paying job, with great benefits.
Cons: long hours, being on-call
If you can handle a typical Monday, you can handle any other day of the week. Mondays are the heaviest, most stressful days especially when it's your first day on a route. The most enjoyable part of the job is the delivery of the mail. If you've done a good job sorting the mail, you'll have easy time in the delivery. Due to the current postal transformation, – more... there is less sorting involved since much of the mail now comes sequenced. The co-workers are always helpful. If you ask questions, they'll be more than happy to help. I've learned to use a PDT (Portable Data Terminal) which is pretty straight-forward. I am looking forward to having a full-time position with this company. – less
worked alone in a rural post office, all transactions done manually
Postmaster (Former Employee), Fife Lake, SK – April 26, 2012
Pros: benefits (except dental)
Cons: did same work as larger offices, after 2 hrs got 1/4 wages $6.95/ hr
I was employed as a permanent part time employee. I had no co-workers. I was a 1 person show. I ran everything. I learned how to operate & manage a post office single handedly. I rarely saw management, once a year if I was lucky. The hardest part of the job was cash accounting, most month ends went well but the odd time I would spend hours searching – more... for a mistake I made. Sometimes you have to walk away for awhile. My office never received a terminal, every transaction was done manually. I had to know everything that was done day to day & things that weren't. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with the public. – less
Volume Counter (Former Employee), Camrose, AB – April 2, 2012
I had a great experience working at the Canada Post Office and would love another oppurtunity like this. Great Place to get an advancement and keep on learning. Management is great and is willing to help. Great atmosphere to work in and great co-workers to work with. There is really nothing too hard about this job. I think any one who is willing to – more... work would be capable of working here. – less
Inventory Counter- Temp position (Current Employee), Calgary, AB – March 27, 2012
Pros: safe environment.
Worked as a letter carrier (32 years) , inventory counter and Christmas help as a postal clerk. All positions were challenging and rewarding. I learned to make decisions on my feet , handle large volumes of mail in a sortation and delivery situation. Kept strict timelines and worked with management on a professional level.
Letter Carrier (Current Employee), BC – January 15, 2012
Pros: healthy lifestyle, great people, great benfits, pension, and sight seeing
Cons: physically demanding, early days, sometime long days
Great place to work. Starting out (as a Term) could be hard as you are constantly placed all over the lower mainland. Also sortation of mail can be difficult being new and the large number of mail/parcels you have to deliver can be quite heavy. Also locating residential/commercial properties can be difficult for someone who does not know the area. On – more... the other hand, the advantages of this job is that if you finish early you still get paid for full day's of work. Also the fresh air being outdoor can be therapeutic and relaxing. – less
