Working in the entertainment industry is fast paced, yet exciting, and Canterbury Park was definitely all of that. The only thing I would have asked for more of was recognition. If you are looking for great seasonal employment, I highly suggest Canterbury Park.
management sucked except a few of them. the hours were weird and they need to learn to train and help people find there way around the place. They need to go to make sure they don't get lost. They need to give people a variety of things to do and they need to learn to cross train people for other jobs.
Get to see the horses racing.
bad training and inconsistant schedule and needs to cross train
Cash Operations - Count Team (Former Employee) – Shakopee, MN – July 5, 2017
This was a temporary seasonal position so little benefits. Though it was fun work! Casual clothes and then you would put on a "smerf blue" uniform overalls. Very strict compliance rules but nothing too difficult to follow.
Everyone is very Friendly and happy all the time. Minus race days being stressful, It is one of the happiest places I've worked! Typical work day is completing projects fast pace and well done. I learned to never doubt yourself. Hardest part is everyone staring over your shoulder. Most enjoy able part is the people are super friendly.
Food and Beverage Server (Current Employee) – Shakopee, MN – June 6, 2017
You can have a lot of fun but management needs to let their people do their jobs instead of micro managing. There are a lot of nice people and some of the customers are really fun. But with any business such as this, there are some people that are mean and nasty. You have to learn to deal with them.
Caterer (Current Employee) – Shakopee, MN – May 23, 2017
If you like to get in on the action and have fun while at work, then this is the place for you. The management is very engaged and willing to train you and support you in your role. The overall atmosphere is one of fun and enjoyment due to the nature of the environment. People come there to have fun. As an employee you get to help guests have a great experience.
Canterbury is a very upbeat and fun place to work at. The employees are very hospitable. a typical day consisted of me making sure all of the tote machines are working properly and troubleshooting anything that did not work correctly. The hardest part of the job was learning how to fix machines when we were running low on parts.
Canterbury is a wonderful place to work and the money is great for what you do. Unfortunately once you hit a certain level there is not much room for advancement. There are a lot of regular customers and it feels like a family there. Between the customers and your co-workers this is the reason why most people stay so long at Canterbury. The hardest part of the job is lack of advancement and working with the different management styles. The most enjoyable part is the staff and the environment. Canterbury hosts events from live racing to concerts to craft shows. The environment is always changing and it keeps things interesting.
Great work enviorment, learned a lot about customer service and horse racing. A day of work consisted of cleaning tote machines with refilling of paper for bet tickets along with anything that need to be replaced or fixed on machines that had broke.
Meeting lots of new people, fun job daily with co workers, enjoyed working on electronics
