great orginization
Field Organizer/Independent contractor (Current Employee), San Diego, CAApril 8, 2013
Pros: get to get involved with the community
Cons: canvassing
canvassing isnt for everyone, but it is a great work environment everyone is really cool and respectful and have became life long friends of mine. The most enjoyable part is all of the people you work with it and the hardest is the canvassing, it can be really fun and easy but like i said it isnt for everyone

Job doing very meaningful work with supportive people
Field Organizer (Former Employee), San Diego, CADecember 13, 2012
Pros: great conversations, actually doing something about political and social injustice.
Cons: no insurance, very low pay, very hard job to do everyday.
We would review our goals and canvass public places searching for fundraising and voter support for our causes and ballot initiatives. I learned how to approach people with confidence and persuasiveness and to be resilient and try harder no matter what. My co-workers were supportive and we all had each other. The management was not the best. It was a sink-or-swim attitude toward canvassers and it led to people leaving often. The hardest part of the job was the financial insecurity and the constant rejection from strangers, even abuse. We all did it because we believed in our cause (gay rights) and wanted a better world, and the most enjoyable part of the job was meeting people who thanked us for being out there and fighting for them.
