Capezio/Ballet Makers is hoping that it reaps the plentiful rewards of a Dance Dance Revolution. The company, which has been operating for more than a century, makes dance apparel and footwear, including ballet "pointe" shoes, ice skating costumes, and ballroom dancing apparel. Its products are sold online and by catalog. Capezio also boasts about a dozen corporate store locations worldwide. Through its Ballet Makers-Europe unit, a joint venture with partner Norwich Dancewear, Capezio/Ballet Makers makes and markets its products in Europe. The company's run by the family of founder Salvatore Capezio, a cobbler who made a name for himself with performers at the neighborhood's Metropolitan Opera House.
The dance company offers grants -- ranging from $500 to $1,000 apiece -- for dance programs on the national, state, and local level to fund dance efforts. In 2008 Charles "Chuck" Davis received the foundation's Capezio Dance Award, which the company has awarded annually since 1952. – less
