Enjoyable workplace
Consultant Oracle Analytics Service Line (Former Employee), Tampa, FL – April 9, 2013
Pros: healthcare, hours flexibility, training
Cons: face to face contact with peers, low budget
My co-workers are very helpful and patience. The most enjoyable part of the job is when we have our weekly meetings and have our social time for personal and work discussions. The hardest part of the job is not being close to home office. Our Managers work really hard trying to find the best fit project for your needs. They are understanding with situations – more... that may arise. Help and assistance is always opened and available. There is so much that I've learned in all aspects such as Leadership, Work Ethics, Value and Technical/Functional development. If I'm not on a project, I am always looking for more training materials that will enhance my knowledge in specific fields where I can improve. – less

Entry-Level Boot Camp
Software Engineer (Current Employee), Charlotte, NC – March 6, 2013
Pros: incredible on-the-job-learning.
Cons: overworked and understaffed.
As of the time of this review, I am currently employed with CapGemini. Overall, as an entry-level position, I have little to complain about. The hours are grueling and the attrition rate is high, but the job is anything but dull, and the learning acquired has been phenomenial for the time involved.

Because CapGemini is a consulting company, the experiences – more... with them can vary wildly depending on the client and the position applied for. In this case, I have been employed as a software developer, primarily coding core java. While balancing requests and demands from different managers and client representatives, my daily work consists of phone calls, handling updated requirement documents, helping handle bugs and production issues, coding, regression testing, guiding new code iterations from the development to UAT to staging phases, release management, and remaining on call into the night.

The worst part about the job is the fact that the development team is understaffed and overworked, and generally gets pre-empted from its own tasks. Deadlines are very relative, as tasks pile up faster than they can be handled, and CapGemini's nature as a company means it has to be *very* careful in negotiating with its clients unless it risks deadlock in a new hiring process, or otherwise jeopardizes its engagement.

The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to code, and the skillsets learned to work on it. I learned a lot about practical application of Java RMI, cluster communication APIs, protocol stacks, front-end development with Adobe Flex, differences between PL/SQL and Transact SQL, build automation and integration with Apache Ant and Jenkins, how to integrate Spring into an enterprise-level application, how to use Guava to refactor processing of large datasets...Both learning new technologies and programming methodologies, and continually practicing that which was already known, have resulted in a great learning experience.

Overall, CapGemini is worth working for, especially if you're new to software development. You'll come out of it a better business analyst, programmer, and general all-arounder employee if you're willing to put in the extra effort. – less

Good place to work if you can get placed on a project
Senior SAP Consultant (Former Employee), TX – February 5, 2013
Pros: training programs, accessibility to information
Cons: poor lower level management
Good company but unless you know someone or have one of the few specific skills needed for a project, you have little chance of being staffed even with very marketable skills.

I was staffed on a high profile client project in the area I wanted but upon arrival, I was moved to a team where I had no experience. One of my colleagues in my same area was – more... also staff with no experience and Cap was fully aware of this. After a couple of months, my colleague was rolled off early per the clients request due to lack of knowledge, and the team lead let the person take the fall. The team lead told my colleague there were no problems and the roll-off was simply due to it being the end of the need for their services. Similar instance with me. I was given no information by my team lead and never received communication nor did he take the initiative to find out what my skills were despite my efforts to build a good relationship.

Overall, if you can find a good project and a mentor that's invested in you, you're likely to really enjoy your job and the company. Otherwise, it won't be long until they notify you of a "reduction in force", and you're out of a job. – less

No Clear Management Direction
IT Consultant (Current Employee), New York, NY – January 16, 2013
My biggest challenge with Capgemini has been your ability to manager you career and the lack of programs that help you manage your own career. There is also no structure around the difference organizations within the company. You know who the leads are, but there really aren't many champions of each group.

I've also had issues with how we staff resources. – more... We are an India first model, which isn't a bad model if you are getting the best and brightest out of the region. Capgemini did not get the best and brightest.

The last issue with Capgemini is the sales first attitude. At other large consulting firms they put technology and business process first. You can see this sales first attitude front and center by the quality of technical resources that remain or leave. – less

Productive Workplace
Consultant (Current Employee), Charlotte, NC – December 7, 2012
Pros: friendly atmosphere
Cons: not to my knowledge
My normal days at work starts with attending the morning meetings with the managers at Ally Bank or Third party vendors who are involved with the DR drill projects - After which I usually modify and update the project plans related to these DR excecise - AS a DR project Manager that every minute details are being covered thus I usually conduct follow – more... up calls to ensure that all the aspects of the upcomimg drills are covered - The learning aspects of this assignment are vendor negotiations and management - Since all the 3rd Party applications in the Ally Consumer Portal site are outsourced - thus I have deal and work with the various vendor groups that render services to Ally - This includes interacting with the Release, Transition , Event and finally the Account Manager of the 3rd Party vendor - Along with this I have to interact with the Ally Business Team - to ensure that all the needed functionalities are catered for the ultimate approval of the projects. Since as a DR consultant I work independently thus I report CapGemini mangement about the progress of each project there is not much involvement from their in my daily operations. My co-workers are okay and we have a very formal relationship - The hardest part of the job is to get all the needed information for a cohesive output but I enjoy the challenge because I enjoy dealing with various groups and sometimes bring them all in one table to iron out the differences - Especially when pending releases or deployments pose hindrance for scheduling a DR drill – less
