Funds Flex Associate (Former Employee), Norfolk, VASeptember 2, 2014
Pros: great people
Cons: organization skills
Capital Group is a really good company. But there is no opportunity for advancement. It was very unorganized at times. One day you are working on a work types then you the next day something different. The problem was not the change in different work types. It was the fact that no one knew how to train you on the new worktype. Overall it is a good company.

Doing the Same as Always
withheld (Former Employee), Los Angeles, CAAugust 31, 2014
Pros: nice benefits, snacks in the break room, good community supporters
Hiring process here ensures everyone is compatible, but it also eliminates the presence of new ideas. There is no acceptance for trying something new or different. Senior Managment, in roles outside of the stock analyst group, are very focused on impressing the level above themselves, and not advocates for those that report to them.

Capital Group is a U.S.-based bank holding company specializing in credit cards, home loans, auto loans, banking and savings products. A member of the Fortune 500, the company helped pioneer the mass marketing of credit cards in the early 1990s, and it is now the fourth-largest customer of the United States Postal Service and has the sixth-largest deposit – more... portfolio in the United States – less

Great benefits, lackluster management
Analyst (Current Employee), Irvine, CAJuly 31, 2014
Pros: great retirement package, decent work/life balance
Cons: management, career development
Capital offers its employees excellent benefits, including life insurance, generous amounts of paid time off and a stellar retirement package.

While the perks are enticing job mobility is average at best. The talent at senior level positions is impressive; however management in several operational groups are ineffective and spend more time belittling – more... employees versus developing them. – less

Senior Writer/Content Strategist (Former Employee), Los Angeles, CAJuly 30, 2014
Pros: excellent compensation and benefits
Cons: limited opportunity for advancement
Associates are extremely professional and genuinely nice. The company is going through a lot of change/restructuring, so there is some confusion and uncertainty around roles and responsibilities right now.

Strong Corporate Culture
Tax Reporting Associate (Current Employee), San Antonio, TXMay 31, 2014
Pros: helping customers, working with some truly excellent people
Cons: company culture, working with some less than excellent people
This is a company with a strong and political corporate culture. Co-workers are generally friendly and training is excellent. The benefits and retirement plan is quite good, however the compensation is on the low end. Advancement within the company is difficult and limited. You learn a great deal about mutual funds and different investment account types. – more... They expect you to give excellent customer service at all times and as a result you begin to expect excellent service in your own life. Your typical work day is busy but with little variation. You day can become fairly repetitive. The most difficult part of the job is the political culture. The most enjoyable part of the job is some of the people you get to know and work with. Additionally, getting to help customers who are in difficult situations or who have been given bad information in the past will make your day feel bright because you have done something to help them. That makes it really enjoyable. – less

Be a robot. Learn. Great benefits.
Senior Client Service Representative (Former Employee), Irvine, CAMay 26, 2014
Pros: benefits
Cons: you become a number without realizing it.
Structured company. You learn a lot. You lose your soul for the benefits. People get sucked in to the culture. It's bizarre. It's amazing at first and psychotic later. I am proud I stayed for over 6 years and also proud that I left.

I agree with the feedback that if you like to think outside of the box it is not for you. If you don't mind redundancy – more... you might like it.

And no, the managers are not supportive. They are making a big paycheck they don't deserve and will throw anyone under the bus if it keeps them in the game. – less

Operations Administrator - Trade Settlements (Current Employee), Irvine, CAMay 16, 2014
I come in at 7 Am, and get started on trade fail management. I work with brokers and custodians in varying global markets and mainly work on settlements. My coworkers have a strong comradre and we work well together to get the job done. There is open and clear communication amongst everyone, and we trust one another to work for the hollistic goal and – more... not as individuals.
The hardest part of the job is getting external counterparts to correspond in a timely manner to avoid trade failures. The distance of our peers in other offices can also be a challenge due to the time differences.
I enjoy the teamwork most, as I couldn't do it without the leadership and guidance of my peers! – less

A toxic culture
Project Leader (Former Employee), Brea, CAFebruary 4, 2014
Pros: high pay, good benefits
Cons: a truly toxic culture
Capital Group could be a plot for "Mad Men." It's a cut-throat culture where duplicity is the going standard. I have many friends who have worked there, and they all have had incredibly unhappy experiences there. They pay very well, but extract their pound of flesh in return. "Disingenuous" is the best way to describe the culture. There is no humanity – more... here. They seem to have gotten stuck in the business culture of the Fifties and Sixties with a dog-eat-dog attitude. Everyone is known by their initials at this company. Names are not used. This is supposed to put everyone at an equal level, but in fact is dehumanizing. There are no org charts anywhere. There is no way to know who works for whom. This contributes to the atmosphere of uncertainty and a Masonic air of secrecy.
My advice: DO NOT GO THERE.
Ask around. Do some investigation. The price to work there is too high. – less
