This position requires a minimum of 2 years previous medical front office experience and/or medical assistant training through an accredited vocational-technical training program. Must possess the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining a pleasant and courteous disposition toward patients and their family members.
This position is responsible for scheduling and re-scheduling follow-up appointments for patients either in the office or on the telephone, taking information for nurse notes, admitting patients from the office directly to the hospital, scheduling hospital procedures, and completing lab slips for patients.
1.) Answer appointment desk calls.
2.) Schedule or reschedule appointments for patients as needed.
3.) Total fee tickets for patients.
4.) Arrange for consults with other physician's offices.
5.) Schedule any testing performed outside of our office for patients.
6.) Greets patients and/or visitors.
7.) Distribute doctor’s schedule for next day’s appointments.
8.) Count Cash Box at the end of the shift.
9.) Fill out lab slips.
10.) Maintain patient confidentiality.
11.) Review fee slips with patients making any changes such as address, phone number, insurance and PCP.
12.) Registration of any new patients who have not already pre-registered.
13.) Put new charts together and/or prepare established patient charts with correct cover sheets for physicians and attach to patient’s medical record.
14.) Escort patients to exam rooms when necessary or requested.
15.) Complete paperwork and computer data for no-shows, reschedules and cancellations.
16.) Notify Patient Rep if referral is needed for patient’s appointment due to insurance change, walk-in, etc.
17.) Organize daily schedule and fee slips for the next day’s patients.
18.) Take co-payments and payments. Balance ledger at the end of the day and verify amount in cash box. Deliver cash box and ledgers to the business office at the end of the day.
19.) Perform other work related duties as required or requested.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of medical office procedures. Skill in operating a computer and other business machines. Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone and dealing with patients in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, other employees and the public. Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. Knowledge of EPIC is preferred but not required.
