About Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital

Amputee Program - Cardinal Hill's Amputee Program, established in 1986, serves patients who have undergone amputation of one or more extremities. The goal of the program is to help the patient achieve his maximum functional potential. A collaborative, integrated team approach helps promote a rapid and cost-effective return to home and community.

Day
 – more... Programs - The Day Programs at Cardinal Hill offer an opportunity for continued care while allowing the patient to return home to their family and friends. Day Programs provide more intensive therapy to help each patient develop and maintain an independent lifestyle.

Patients practice what they learned during their hospital stay in their own environment. Then patients continue rehabilitation, nursing and therapy on a daily basis where they can discuss any questions or difficulties they may have in adjusting to outside surroundings.

We offer Day Programs for any patients needing specific intensive therapy for any of our disciplines.

Multiple Sclerosis - Whether seen on an inpatient or outpatient basis, Cardinal Hill offers the most comprehensive treatment in the region for patients with multiple sclerosis. Our rehabilitation team develops a plan of treatment that teaches the skills patients need to become as independent as possible. Our rehabilitation process includes self-care and mobility skills, allowing our patients to set goals for themselves as they progress.

Orthopedic - Cardinal Hills Orthopedic Program serves individuals who have undergone joint replacement or other orthopedic surgery. Orthopedic surgeons may refer patients to the program preoperatively to ensure a rapid transition from acute care to rehabilitation at Cardinal Hill. Cardinal Hill's skilled and caring professionals create an atomosphere that supports the orhopedic patients' recovery and progress.

Outpatient Clinics - The services that are provided by Cardinal Hill extend past the care that is available for patients who are admitted after an injury or illness. Cardinal Hill's Outpatient Clinics are designed to provide a continuum of care that begins with the initial evaluation and extends to medical and therapeutic services. Anyone is welcome to make an appointment to be seen in our clinics regardless of whether they were a former Cardinal Hill patient or at an acute care facility.

Outpatient Services - At Cardinal Hill, our primary goal is to restore independence to each patient and to allow him to return to home. This is accomplished through cost-effective, diagnosis-specific, plans of care delivered by a consistent team of clinicians. Continuity of care following discharge is assured through a variety of options: our Day Programs, series of specialty outpatient clinics, outpatient therapy services and home care services.

Pool Program - Cardinal Hill's Aquatic Therapy pool allows individuals to perform water exercises on their own or work with a qualified therapist to develop an individually designed exercise program. The pool measures 24-feet by 32-feet and runs from 4-feet to 5-feet in depth. The water temperature ranges between 94 and 96 degrees in order to warm muscles, joints and ligaments which allows for easier stretching and movement while exercising.

Arthritis Pool Classes are taught by Cardinal Hill staff certified by the Kentucky Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. We also have a Lumbar Stabilization Pool class taught by CHRH staff. The Independent Pool Program allows patients to do individual exercises without a therapist during pool hours.

Pulmonary Program - Tragically, Kentucky leads the nation in lung-related illnesses, as a result of tobacco abuse. For the growing number of people suffering with chronic lung diseases, Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital has established the first inpatient pulmonary rehabilitation program in central Kentucky. The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program can benefit persons diagnosed with the following conditions: asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, occupational and environmental lung disease, poliomyelitis and lung transplants. Our objectives are to control, reduce and alleviate the symptoms and complications of chronic pulmonary disease; train the patient how to reach the highest possible level of independent functioning for his/her Activities of Daily Living and to train the patient to self-manage his/her daily living, consistent with the pulmonary disease process.

For those patient who do not require overnight care in the hospital, we also offer a comprehensive outpatient pulmonary program. Our goal is to ultimately transfer the responsibility of treatment from the clinic, hospital or doctor to self-care in the home by the patient or the patient's family/caregiver. Our outpatient program runs in 8-week sessions that meet 3 times per week for 3 hours a day. Our Outpatient Medical Doctor is available to monitor and supervise each patient during the program and family members are welcome to participate in the education process. Any patient wanting insurance reimbursement for treatment must be smoke-free.

Following completion of our pulmonary rehabilitation program, Cardinal Hill also offers an exercise maintenance program entitled "Phase III." Phase III allows participants to use exercise equipment in one of our gyms for a small monthly fee. There is a physical therapy aide available to assist the participants and monitor heart rate and oxygen levels.

Cardinal Hill also offers a Pulmonary Support Group for anyone in the community who suffers with pulmonary disease. Family members and those interested in learning more about chronic lung disease are welcome as well. – lessMore from ZoomInfo »
