My time spent at Cardinal was informative and extremely valuable. It provided a great insight into full time employment that i found very useful having just left 6th form. Often the working environment was high pressure and required exceptional organisational skills, a skill that improved drastically with my time at the company. Day to day duties often consisted of problem solving, with clients needing a last minute guard duty to watch over a premises or site where security may have lapsed. Other times it was a simple case of updating the computer based system with the following weeks guard rosters whilst ensuring there were no conflicts with booked holidays etc.
A downside to the position was the fact that the control room legally had to be manned 24 hours a day, this meant 12 hour individual night shifts, this increased pressure and responsibility as often guarding requests could come in the middle of the night.
My colleagues at Cardinal were extremely helpful and friendly, it was extremely easy to fall into normality when i first joined the team. The team i worked with created an enjoyable atmosphere to work in.
The hardest part of the job was keeping on top of work when seemingly out of nowhere the control room would become extremely busy, however with efficient delegation these times would pass relatively quickly.
