GENERAL SUMMARY:

In brief summary, the Property Accountant is responsible for day-to-day property management accounting activities. These activities focus on timely monthly reporting and associated entries/follow up.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Majority of time (approx. 90%) spent on preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for multiple properties. This includes:

o Completing the month end close and reconciliation process (including bank reconciliation)
o Completing a thorough review/analysis of financial statements.

  • Applies appropriate accounting techniques and standard practices when inputting, tracking, analyzing, reconciling and reporting on properties
  • Independently resolve routine matters including bank reconciliation outstanding items, payment application/coding errors, payment inquiries/reissuance, etc.
  • Monitor and review weekly cash flow to anticipate needs/excess
  • Prepare audit schedules and year end materials as requested
  • Work with other company employees/divisions as needed including: Community Managers, Regional Managers, Acquisitions/Dispositions and Asset Management
  • Perform other functions and specials projects as assigned with guidance from a Property Accounting Supervisor

Candidates for this Position should hold the following qualifications and be able to demonstrate the following abilities to be considered as a suitable applicant. Please note that except where specified as “preferred,” all points listed below are considered minimum requirements.

Qualifications (Skills – technical and non-technical):

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field
  • 2+ years’ experience in financial/accounting management
  • Previous experience in Real Estate, Property Management or related field preferred
  • Must have extensive knowledge of computers, Windows (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and other applicable accounting software
  • Previous experience with MRI system is a plus
