kiln utiliy (Current Employee) – Winchester, VA – April 3, 2016
Decent pay for area but once they get you in a raise is like pulling teeth to get. Most of the management are useless, except for a few. There is a huge favoritism issue within departments, ecspecially in the maintenance and quarry departments. Ive been an employee here for a lil over a year and it has changed for this worse in a small amount of time. most jobs are rotating or they lie and once you get there you are changed to a rotating shift. co workers are mostly ok but there is a select few that get the favortism and all the specialized training and raises. hard work is nothing, its mostly who pleases the boss. othere than that its a job
Maintenance Supervisor (Former Employee) – Strasburg, VA – April 7, 2016
in 26 years was there made a lot of friends that thought of as family. very little support when needed from management. learned a lot; good and bad. There's a lot of learning opportunities there. Good place to work till something better comes along; just watch your back.
decent pay, few good employees, training
very little managent support, alot of passing the blame
Maintenance Manager (Current Employee) – Maysville, KY – March 10, 2016
I started as the Maintenance Planner and within 3 years was promoted to the Maintenance Manager. I enjoyed both jobs and really like the freedom I have in making improvements to the maintenance department
Started out as laborer and worked my to Garage Mech/Maiternance. Fellow employees and management a good group guys to work with. Hardest part of the job was cleaning out the duct work which consisted of coating built up on the inside from 1" thick to 2' thick. They did provide good meals and showed us their appreciation on jobs well done.
Maintenance Mechanic (Current Employee) – Maysville, KY – April 5, 2015
Everything is quick and half way fixed they don't want to fix anything the correct way. And this company doesn't care what you do for them how much money you save them. Supervision only cares about themselves they don't take care of any workers and then wonder why moral is low. Management cut hours down to 32 while not cutting theirs or taking a pay cut like the rest of us. The job is not as stable as I thought.
Fair pay, good benefits, close to home
everyone is related, schedule rotates, cut your hours
Administrative Assistant II/Wellness Coordinator (Former Employee) – Strasburg, VA – April 2, 2015
Management was too interested in personal advancement, and treated workers with disrespect. It could have been a nice place to work, but the underlying feeling of no job security and whether or not you made the boss happy each day in order to keep your job was very difficult. Otherwise, the work was okay.
Great pay and benefits
Dirty environment, too many managers with different opinions
Production Laborer (Current Employee) – Ohio – May 8, 2013
Great Company that being said ,They are all about more higher salary positions and less Laborers . Sometimes can be really confusing but in my work history with them they really do care . They like doing alot of useless redunt paperwork . Seems to be somedays like being trapped in the movie Office Space .
Corporate Management (Current Employee) – Pittsburgh – May 3, 2013
Carmeuse is a great place to work with people that really care about what they do and also each other. I came in with little experience and with hard work and dedication and I was able to grow with the company. I have had wonderful opportunities and experiences that I have never had with past companies. The most enjoyable part of my job is working with people that care and are not quick to judge and blame. My job is challenging and I have a list of things that need to get done that seems impossible, but with the support of our management team, we do get things accomplished. If you are a hard worker who can think creatively, you will be presented with a bounty of unique experiences and opportunities at Carmeuse!
electrician (Former Employee) – strasburg, va – May 2, 2013
The company does pay well, doesn't have the greatest benefit package but not the worst. The company lacks severely in treatment of employees, Probably the worst job I've ever had in that aspect! The place will fire/layoff you in a heartbeat or at least threaten you daily. Co-workers aren't terrible but the atmosphere within the company creates a backstabbing/ brown nosing of sort within the people. Basically, if you are satisfied working for a place like this, it doesn't take much to please you. This is more of a place to get some experience and get out.
overtime, good pay
unorganized, high turnover, poor treatment of employees
Great organization w/ a solid future! Best company I have worked for to date!
Current Employee (Current Employee) – Michigan – April 25, 2013
Carmeuse is a family owned and operated organization who recently celebrated over 150 years of success! The Company is very focused on the future and building a staff of highly skilled employees required for continued success and growth.
Safety truly is their first priority; this concept is driven from the top down and reinforced with aggressive initiatives, goals, etc.
I am impressed with the amount of training that is provided within the organization. The sky's the limit and the only thing holding employees back is themselves.
I also appreciate the level of support that is provided beginning at the Exceutive level all the way down to the site management teams.
Overall, very good company and a great place to work!
Great place to work, excellent support from all levels of management
Manager (Current Employee) – Alabama – March 26, 2013
With this company there are great opportunities to get involved in different parts of the business. They focus efforts on employee development and advancement. The compensation and benefits are very competitive. Being a private/family-owned company, the core values of safety, environmental, respect, and being the best are a priority that they live by.
