Priately held company that still hold on to the small business ideals
Sales Associate/Machinist (Current Employee), Winchester, VA –
Pros: 1 hour lunch
Cons: 35 hours a week
Carquest is a privately held company, the family that founded the company is still active operating the business. The atmosphere is like stepping back in time. This at times is a comfortable and frustrating. I can honestly say that my coworkers all are very skilled and care about the customers.

productive and good working atmosphere.
Auto Parts Handler (Former Employee), Rexdale, ON –
Pros: bbq luncheons.
Cons: meeting the standards.
The typical day at work is basicly going to team mates morning meetings daily and the supervisor will assign you your work and do the work in that day. I have learned more about the Rf scanner and the princpals of the job. The Management is ok they should be better communication between the team mates and the rest of the management. My co-workers was – more...  great to work with with some typical conflicts that were resolved. The hardest part of the job is meeting their picking standards every month they move it up and have to reach at least 100% production level with picking with totes. The most enjoyable part of the job for me is moving from stocking to picking and picking to stocking. – less

Deliver auto parts to commercial customers as they call in their needs that day. My resonsibilties also included to pickup returns and cores from customers, and to ship daily overstock.

The work place was original
Delivery Driver (Former Employee), Flint, MI –
Cons: horrible work environment
Although it was fun to work for CarQuest Auto Parts I found that it was more of a competitive store for business than it was about taking care of it's employees. I originally started out at minimum wage of 5.75 per hour and after four years I was still only making the new states minimum wage that took place in 2006 of 7.45 per hour and was struggling – more...  to be capable of getting food for my family of 4 even though I was working full time with no benefits. I was only capable of bring home approximately 200 to 250 dollars per week. I ended up leaving the company not because I wanted to leave but because the company had a policy that if you had more than 4 automobile accident in less than seven years you could no longer drive the vehicles as a delivery driver. My manager at that time tried to get me to be capable of working as an cashier in the store instead but the company let me go do to the fact of the 4 automobile accident happening and then proceeded to fight the fact that I had been laid off by them so I could not obtain unemployment for another 4 months after the lay off to be capable of providing for my family but by that time I had managed to obtain another job and was capable of feeding my family again but only by obtaining state assistance. but in general the work place was original. – less

Pros: open door policy, very cooperative on customer service.
Cons: demanding schedule to keep.
A normal day consisted of meeting time schedule for customers and inventory of correct parts ordered. then deliver parts ordered to various auto and diesel shops within 25 mile area, also shuttle parts to other carquest stores. normally start at 7am and finish by 4pm. very customer oriented and customer relations position wich i enjoyed the most.management – more...  and fellow employee very coopertive in meeting customer orders. – less

Great part time job
Customer Service Teammate (Former Employee), Longmont, CO –
Pros: free lunches on weekends, discounts on auto parts, full hour lunches during the week.
Cons: low pay but that's auto parts.
My time was split between putting away inventory from daily stock orders, delivering parts to customers, and helping walk in customers find the right parts for their vehicles. Management was outstanding as they were roll up the sleeves type managers who took an interest in helping me learn all I could as quickly as possible. My co-workers were outstanding – more...  as well and were extremely patient in helping me find my way around the inventory. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting to know the customers and make sure they were taken care of. As part timer I worked weekends and as needed to fill in. – less

This is a stable company where job security is strong, but the communication is not strong with employees.

Not worth it
management (Former Employee), Indiana –
Pros: the paychecks never bounced, that's about it.
Cons: more than i have room for..... see above.
Paid employees in lower positions considerably more (than management, in some cases) if they were Hispanic, temporarily transferred people to stores 30+ more miles from home then refused to transfer them back to their original locations, not too concerned with labor laws, i.e. scheduling ONE person on Saturdays, and scheduling them for a lunch break – more...  they knew they couldn't take, some locations could easily be considered unsafe workplaces, Trying to run their stores "lean", i.e. on a shoestring, then wanting to blame management for slow delivery times and poor sales.... I could go on, but if that's not enough to make you run away, you're exactly what they're looking for. – less

typical big business, micromanage culture at all levels, middle and upper management top heavy who are out of touch with the end user.
Commercial Sales Manager (Outside Sales) (Former Employee), Maine –
Pros: any job is better than none.
Cons: micro managed, constantly changing comp plans, understaffed, inadequate parts inventory, not competitively priced, unnecessary amount of electronic daily reports
Little opportunity to control your time or your income. After two years of increasing sales not only was my salary cut twice, but I was asked to work more hours including Saturday every other week for a total of about 55 hours. Contract changed every year so I never achieved the annual bonus that was promised when recruited. Just when I achieved bonus – more...  objectives they changed the bonus program again. The ad doesn't give the full job description. CSM are required to work inside on the counter on Saturday and/or Sunday in some stores. Store manager's are forced to cut employees hours on a regular basis leaving the store unable to make timely deliveries and often not being able to answer the phones when customers call to place orders. While the mission statement claims the priority of providing great service, upper management continually implements mandates that do just the opposite. Avoid Car Quest unless you enjoy dealing with angry customers on a daily and weekly basis. Must drive your own vehicle, auto allowance and gas allowance is too low, – less

Great people, but unless you want to make this into a career, I'd stay away.
Anonymous (Current Employee), Anonymous –
Pros: friendy people, lenient hours
Cons: poor pay, not enough hours
This is a great company but not a good part time job. Do not get enough hours to make a living on top of horrible pay. The managers and employees are the friendliest people I've ever met.
