Not a bad company, HQ/mgt is somewhat separated from the branch level.
SERVICE SUPERVISOR (Former Employee), San Leandro, CA –
Pros: a very costly safety program
Cons: perhaps over-regulation from corporate
I liked working for Carrier. They did have a strange way of running business however. The branch level mgt would get handed marching orders from corporate, and a majority of the time the orders would end up hurting the branch level. Corporate would dictate what pricing structure the local could use, and we'd end up pricing ourselves out of the competition. – more...  Locally the branch was a "good ol' boys club" so if you weren't directly in the clique, then your promotions were limited. There was always the 'battle' between the unions and mgt to contend with, but for the most part it was a pleasure to work with the actual HVAC technicians. Smart bunch of guys, and for the most part they just wanted to stay out of the office politics and do their jobs. – less

Not interested in the truth.
Sales & Engineer Coordinator (Former Employee), Plymouth Meeting, PA –
Pros: great working environment
Cons: the corporate office, they feel they are above all their employees, and it shows
Their corporate office is located in Syracus NY and when they called my previous employers, one of them (a new girl) said she never heard of me. So when i was told, I immediately called my project manager on that job and he emailed a letter letting them know that I truly work with them. The corporate office replied, "the hire ups made a decision and – more...  did not want to hear anything else". My co-worker was excellent, she was so informative and trained me so well, she deserves much, much more than she gets. – less

Large corporation, lots of politics
Branch Manager (Former Employee), Houston, TX –
Pros: decent bonuses
Cons: adversarial and political climate
Most of my 13 years with Carrier was challenging and enjoyable. The last 2 years or so became rather unpleasant due to politics and a culture of spying and reporting of ethics violations and/or supposed ethics violations. Upper and middle management changed every 6 months, they were more concerned with short term profits and job security, as opposed – more...  to making good moves overall. Benefits declined when Carrier had Watsco come in and take over 60% of distribution business in southern states around 2009. I'd look at all options before coming on with Carrier today. – less
