The North Carolina executive branch leads the people of the Tar Heel State. The governor is the head of the state's executive branch, which also includes the Lieutenant Governor, as well as the heads of state agencies. The Office of the Governor helps to enforce the laws enacted by the legislature. The governor's cabinet includes the secretaries of state agencies including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, and Department of Health and Human Resources. The Office of the Governor has an annual budget of about $20 million.
