all work and no life
Bobbin Winder (Former Employee), Pomona, MO –
Pros: good benefits
Cons: too many to list
If you live to work this is the place for you. Plan on 60 to 70 hours a week of mandatory over time. There is now 70 percent temps working and not being offered permanent employment. Management will lie to you and show special treatment to some this is blatant favoritism, and accepted practice. And no job security you can be fired for no reason, the – more...  facts do not matter. This is my opinion, however talk to the many who have worked at Caterpillar and no longer there. I bet if you live in West Plains, Mo. you know someone who has worked at or working there now and none have positive comments about the factory. – less

Manufacturing Specialist (Current Employee), Waco, TX –
Pros: payed breaks, all tools, ppe, and equipment provieded
Cons: health insurance went up, can only get a rasie once a year
I work 3rd shift . Which is Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12 hours a day. You get four 15 min. breaks and a 30min. lunch break. I run an assortment of mills and a lathe. The management is top notch and are willing to work with you on any issue

Productive and fun place to work at. Ping pong table in break area to kill time and have a little fun at work.
Forklift Operator (Former Employee), Sanford, NC –
Pros: a lot of overtime
Cons: 10 hour shifts and no smoking
Every one is working safely and team work is going on all around you. I learned a lot about auditing and Glovia, system used to keep up inventory of material coming in.My co-workers were great and helpful also hardworking as well. The hardest part about the jobs is the demand they have on you to do so much but you have to be safe at all times. The most – more...  enjoyable part of the job is the food, and people that you work with. They are like family being around them so much. – less

WORST PLACE I'VE EVER WORKED!!!
From Hourly to Management (Former Employee), Decatur, IL –
Pros: if you have relation working their, you might progress (especially in management)
Cons: too much to list....
As far as hourly, they treat them like garbage with the two-tier wage having the guy doing the exact same job as the person next to them making half the money. The union basically doesn't exist, which was broken years ago. If you haven't noticed they're moving a lot of their plants to right to work states (to pay even lower wages, and not having to – more...  deal with unions). Hourly employees are basically disposable!
As far as management, they do whatever they want, disregarding the laws, (EEOC, and etc.). HR is basically a joke, only protecting the company and care less for either hourly or management employees.
Their main concern is profit, and production...and quality is the least of their concerns. Politics is the name of the game, and who you're related to, or if you're only a "yes man/person"! If you attempt to do what's right concerning employees, quality, or rules...those are bypassed to get units out the door.
The name on the product doesn't carry the reputation it did decades ago. Benefits are a joke, they eliminated paid retired pensions, high healthcare premiums, and etc..
After almost 2 decades working there, this is NOT a respectable place to work as it was in the past.
New applicants, don't waste your time.....you can find better easily if you look (either hourly or management).
Just do your research, and you'll find my opinion / claims are out there. Don't waste your blood, sweat, and tears with this employer...or you'll have knives in your back and health problems from the terrible work environment!!!
Best of luck to you....but, not there.....Just a word to the wise from a person with almost 2 decades of employment working there sharing my opinoin, facts, and what I seen firsthand! – less

Machine Operator/Final Parts Inspector (Current Employee), Rockdale, IL –
Caterpillar started off being a promising company but as a began working there I realized that their values towards their employees were the same as those at sweat shops. We do large amounts of work and are treated as if we do not exist.

Family oriented
Warehouse Associate (Former Employee), Atlanta, GA –
Pros: the perks are great
Cons: your co workers are all for themselves
This company is all about its customers and employees. They have all kind of perks and benefits. Their open door policy really is convenient and they always seem concerned. Work is fairly easy unless you make it hard. They have many different shifts and pay is good with potential to move up in the company with raises based solely on performance.
