Fun culture with great flexibility
Solution Architect (Former Employee), Chicago, IL – May 6, 2013
Overall I loved working for CDW, and stayed there for quite a long time. The work day was lively, and the environment was very upbeat with fun young people to be around.
I felt i had little room for advancement in my career without starting over in a different field, so decided to pursue other opportunities.

Good place if you are a lucky person
CORPORATE ACCOUNT MANAGER (Former Employee), Chicago, IL – May 6, 2013
Pros: a lot of free stuff from vendors and special sporting events.
Cons: training
During the training process you will be fed a bunch of ****. Every current Salesperson you will speak to will constantly talk to you as if you were joining a pyramid scheme.

If you are lucky you will get a good manager. Since the company has no marketing, there are a good amount of cold calling that isn't productive. All companies that you are trying – more... to get business from our taken from salespeople on your team.

Again, if you get lucky a lot then this job could be profitable.

Base salary is the same as it was 15 years ago. COL has risen since then.... – less

Tough start but room for advancement
Account Manager (Former Employee), Chicago, IL – April 22, 2013
Pros: room for advancement
Cons: low base pay
Like most, you will start an account manager. What division you go into and in what territory is a roll of the dice. Make the most of your opportunity and maybe you will become a vendor partner.

IT culture ruined
Engineer (Former Employee), Vh – April 10, 2013
Pros: bagels and veges 2 days/wk- if even still supplied
Cons: micro managed and poor leadership
IT culture is poor. One person ruined it for all years ago by not owning up to a change that costed 2 days of downtime for main operating system. IT now is red tape and micro managed.
Not all experienced technical folks make good leaders either, making day to day painful. Thought this would be a great place (latest technology avail) to work (IT), but – more... sadly was wrong. – less

Typical Sales Environment
Account Manager (Current Employee), Herndon, VA – April 2, 2013
This is a typical sales environment; monthly, quarterly and yearly revenue and profit goals to attain. A normal work day starts with checking email, sales router, and following up on previous days task. Remainder of the day consist of conference calls, cold calling, creating quotes, and speaking with vendors. A majority of coworkers are recent college – more... graduates; their first real job. The hardest part of the job - internal meetings. The most enjoyable part of the job is winning sizable, profitable deal. – less

Great place to be if you put in the work
acct manager (Current Employee), chicago – April 2, 2013
Pros: time off, work from home, non taxed benefits
Cons: continual comission change, office politics
I have been with CDW for about 7 years, and I will be the first to aknowledge that there were more perks back in the day. That being said I originally started in 'low level' sales, worked hard, and have been making over 100k for the past three years. The first few years did leave a bit to be deisred, but they were not horrible. I have never been a 'favorite' – more... of any of my managers, but as long as you put in some effort, and try to learn everything should be good. There is of course office politics, but thats everywhere. I have some good months and poor months, so it can be stressful, but thats sales. – less

A lot of great people but terrible management
Corporate Account Manager (Former Employee), Mettawa, IL – March 27, 2013
Pros: people you work with, promotional garbage and shirts from vendors
Cons: low starting pay, annoying commission structure, very poor management and director involvement.
I worked for CDW for over 2 years as a Corporate Account Manager. Basically I found that most of your teammates are great people but management likes to ruin these relationships by stirring the pot and creating problems and trying to turn everyone against each other.

Your pay is garbage for your first year and unless you suck up a lot and get your – more... manager to feel sympathetic for you, you will not be handed any worthy accounts. They are constantly changing the pay structure and don't tell you about it until AFTER it's already been implemented. This is probably the biggest reason for their HUGE turnover. From my hiring class of 13, only 5 remain just to give you an idea.

Management constantly expresses the "team" mentality. Basically if you hit your goal but the team did not, you get put down because it wasn't enough. You go to pointless team meetings every week and awful training's that take you away from your computer and phone. We liked to call this "Sales PREVENTION".

CDW has gone down hill BIG TIME since I started and no longer care about their employees as much as they once did. You're only a number here and even if you outshine your colleagues, you're replaceable. CDW reminds me a lot of Office Space. – less

This position is not for you if you're looking for a career
PARTNER RENEWAL SPECIALIST (Current Employee), APPLETON,WI – March 15, 2013
Pros: free soda in kitchen, monthly bonus check
Cons: office politics, favoritism, advancement opportunity
Only apply for this position if you have little desire to move up in the company. Advancements seem to be based on favorites of management, and hard work does not matter. Tons of office politics. If you are hired, don't go above & beyond as it will not get you anywhere fast. Good position as long as you don't mind staying in it and not advancing.

IT PMO Project Manager (Former Employee), Vernon Hills, IL – February 3, 2013
In the early days, this was very family-oriented and people loved it. These days it's turned into a corporation. If you've got a good manager you've fine, otherwise it's every man for himself.

Wonderful friendly place to work
Bid Desk Specialist (Former Employee), Vernon Hills, IL – November 30, 2012
Pros: meet goals equals manager buying lunch
Cons: increased waistline
Loved working for the teams I assisted as a contractor. geared to stable employment of those with family, i find single living not supported. it is logical family people are more stable andless likely to job hop, but with cailber work place this is single people could have long term employment if giving equal chance.
