The Engineering Department provides engineering expertise, construction project management, technical services, and support to Central Arizona Project (CAP) and is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to provide discipline expertise to CAP's capital improvement projects and internal asset modernization process.
CAP is the largest supplier of renewable water in the state of Arizona. We operate and maintain a 335 mile long aqueduct and pumping plant system that stretches from our source at the Colorado River to the communities of central and southern Arizona. In this position, you would help guide the CAP in identifying solutions to technical engineering problems, ensure that technical documentation for those elements to are accurate, complete, and retrievable, as well as carry out and oversee the design of solutions to the engineering problems. You would be a productive team member on project teams bringing your mechanical engineering knowledge and set of network contacts to the team. A few of the specific responsibilities include:
- Providing complete and professional design services and technical leadership for the purpose of planning and constructing new features of the CAP and modifying, operating, and maintaining existing features of the CAP through engineering expertise and coordination of all related disciplines. This includes the preparation of, or technical oversight of, plans and specifications, internal Work Packages, and materials and cost estimates.
- Preparing, conducting, and coordinating technical studies and investigations.
- Reviewing and communicating review comments on contract submittals, inspecting work done by contractors and CAP maintenance personnel, and providing technical input on work quality and adherence to codes and standards.
- Creating and maintaining records (drawings, specifications, design assumptions, internal and external contact history, calculations, etc.) that reflect the condition and history of CAP property.
Five (5) years of applicable mechanical engineering experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of MECHANICAL Engineering; or three (3) years of engineering experience with a Master's in Mechanical Engineering is required. Registration as a professional engineer is a plus.
The ideal candidate will possess effective interpersonal skills, superior communication skills (verbal and written), and experience with mechanical engineering design applications. Registration as a professional engineer is a plus. A wide project experience base and a willingness to learn are keys to success on our Engineering team.
