Background Actor (Current Employee), Los Angeles, CA – January 27, 2014
Pros: food, being on set
Cons: healthcare, waiting
I love the TV/Film Industry. It can be a fun place to work. I love being on set. The energy is exciting. I am fascinated by all aspects of the industry and would love to work behind the scenes some day. There is no typical day on set because every set is different. Every production is different and it make it more exciting. I suppose the hardest part – more... of doing background work is the waiting. If I could just watch everything going on throughout the production day, I'd be a lot happier. – less
Background Acting for Central Casting on Major Crimes
Background Actor (Current Employee), Burbank, CA – July 5, 2013
Pros: free breakfast and lunch
It was a great experience especially meeting all my other co-workers on the set. I learned to be very patient, cooperative and to keep a positive outlook otherwise we'd never finish filming during production.
Background Actor (Current Employee), greater Los Angeles, CA – June 13, 2013
Pros: you're making movies! free food
Cons: mean employers
I love being a background actor, but I could do without Central Casting. They do not treat the non-union employees very well. They suspend and fire without cause because they see as expendable and don't care that we have to make a living. I actually haven't worked for them in awhile and I am ok with that.
Background Actor (Current Employee), Burbank, CA – June 10, 2013
Pros: income, new people, employee friendship, upper staff and supervisor relationships
Cons: taxes, no-paid vacations, no vations, sick days, request days, low pay, hard labor
I imagine myself getting up in the morning and feeling fully energized and ready to take on the day. Getting ready at a slow and moderate pace would be my next challenge. I would like to make sure that my clothes are looking clean and that I'm not going to work under-dressed. Speaking to my co-workers and managers when I arrive to work would be great – more... because this would make my presence known and that my consciousness to work is; Ready to Go! Any hard part of the job I believe is only a challenge that the company is experiencing to make it a better company. By overcoming these challenges and working through the problems will only make the organization stronger. I think with hard work fun time should be enjoyed. By taking my days off to mostly relax and enjoy my life the the fullest. Also work events should be celebrated with a smile! – less
Background actor (extra) (Current Employee), Burbank, CA – March 5, 2013
I learned to have management and supervising skills. The hardest part of the job is the long hours (can be 14 hours in one day) but other than that I find this to be a wonderful career. I enjoy being involved in the entertainment environment while making good monetary gain.I also truly love the various personalites of all my coworkers that come from – more... the diversity of people that come together in a common intrest of the entertainment industry. – less
Background Actor (Former Employee), Burbank, CA – January 21, 2013
Pros: 80% of background casting is done through central
Cons: poor employee record review process, lack off accountability, no advancement opportunity
Central Casting is by far the largest provider of Background Talent but unfortunately the most difficult to work for/with. Frequent abuse on set by crews and very rude casting directors make this a very difficult position to develop your career with. Any noted Human Resource issues are poorly handled and often inaccurate reporting of events leads one – more... to consider heavy favoritism and a disorganized casting system that is horrifically out of date and does not capitalize on convenient existing technology that could address these long term concerns and create a healthy partnership with Clients. – less
Background Actor (Former Employee), Burbank, CA – November 19, 2012
Pros: free food, great co-workers, fun environment, and learning experiences.
Cons: low pay and waiting for long periods of time.
Central Casting is a great company to work for and of course the work is lots of fun. On a typical day on set, there's a lot of waiting but at the same time you get to see how everything works behind the scenes, and be apart of it. It's a great learning experience for anyone interested in the entertainment industry. There's also the opportunity to meet – more... some great people while on set, so that's always a plus. The hardest part is the waiting but as long as you bring some form of entertainment with you, you'll be fine. The best part is was getting to be apart of a scene and making it look as close to real everyday life as possible. – less
Very productive workplace with plenty room for growth
Background Actor (Current Employee), Burbank, CA – November 13, 2012
Pros: free lunches included
Cons: short bathroom breaks
A typical day at work consist of arriving very early, signing in. Checking in with wardrobe, maybe ckecking in with hair & make-up. Arriving on the set with stage managers assigning post or speaking lines. At times there are plenty of down-time between takes, and changing of reels.
Background acting. Cast Member (Current Employee), Burbank, CA – June 26, 2012
Pros: great experiences, learning, and networking.
Cons: long hours with little comfort.
Central Casting was a great place for a quick job when i needed it. They usually had a job when i needed it. As long as you are good at following directions this would be a good place for you to start looking.
