From the viewpoint of a Registered Nurse this has turned into a terrible hospital to work at. As a general rule the hospital cannot keep important leadership positions filled such as unit directors and charge nurses. Interim directors that fill in are normally charge nurses that have no management experience and less education than half of the staff RNs. It's not what you know here, but who you know.
Trying to take decent care of patients here is a battle. Nurse techs are on the whole lazy and belligerent and more concerned with cell phones than patient care. Physicians do not communicate with either the patient or the nurse and the same doctors are allowed to continue with priveliges there after years of continually not returning phone calls from nursing staff regarding the need for orders or changes in patient status. Administration turns a blind eye to this.
The worst is the ER. This ER will send you unstable patients on the verge of a medical crisis. Patients sit down in ER for 24 plus hours and receive no meds, no care, no nothing. The ER is allowed to bring patients during shift change and this has caused many poor patient outcomes as sometimes patients are just dropped in rooms and no one is told or made aware of it. ER doctors admit patients with diagnosis such as abdominal pain or hypertension but they come to you with no needed meds ordered, critical labs, and it's likely been a day since they had their home medication to boot.
Ancillary staff is a joke and it's worth noting that excepting one or two respiratory therapists this hospital has the laziest RTs I have ever worked with. They only do treatments and try to tell the RN how to do their job. They will not help with trach care, check your bipap patients, or help wean oxygen.
Although the other RNs you work with may be willing to help unfortunately they usually are too bogged down with their own patient load. Plan on doing admissions simultaneously and if you don't watch for yourself you'll be assigned multiple admits while a nurse on another hall has several open beds.
RNs can't be responsible for everyone's job but this hospital only holds the RN accountable for everything. Poor choices in management and uneducated lower level leadership make this a difficult facility to work at. Stay away.
