Chartwell Seniors Housing Real Estate Investment Trust (Chartwell or the Trust) is an open-ended real estate investment trust. Chartwell indirectly owns and manages a portfolio of seniors housing communities across the spectrum of care from independent living communities (IL Communities), through retirement homes (Retirement Homes), to long-term care – more... communities (LTC Communities), which are located in Canada and the United States. As of December 31, 2008, Chartwell’s portfolio of seniors housing communities owned, leased or managed on behalf of others consisted of interests in 38,650 suites in 270 communities, which are operating, under construction or in various stages of development. Chartwell’s portfolio of owned and leased communities consisted of interests in 28,464 suites in 203 communities. As of December 31, 2008, Chartwell and ING Real Estate Investment Management Australia PTY Limited each held a 50% interest in CSH-INGRE LLC.
