About Chewonki Foundation, Inc.
The Chewonki Foundation is a nonprofit educational institution established in 1962 and located on a 400-acre peninsula in Wiscasset, Maine. We are dedicated to helping people grow individually and in community with others by providing educational experiences that foster an understanding and appreciation of the natural world. Our leaders challenge participants – more... both physically and intellectually with activities that build self confidence, a sense of community, and a greater awareness of the inter relatedness of the world around us. Since 2002, The Chewonki Foundation has purchased the campground land, built new privies, renovated existing buildings, rewired sites, and revegetated many areas of erosion. We will continue revegetation efforts and to explore energy alternatives for the campground, as well as making it as green a campground as possible. We have recently received teaching equipment for basic fly-fishing programs and will continue to work with volunteers to promote fly-fishing and river conservation.
