Agent
Sr Scheduling Agent/ Complex Scheduling Specialist (Current Employee), Cincinnati, OH – May 15, 2013
Pros: job security
Customer Service Scheduling appointments for families all over the world. You learn so much about Families and how to better assist them everyday. I learned alot of Medical terminology and Schedule over 29 Different Departments in the 3 yrs I've been employed here. The Hardest part is dealing with the emotion from the families and trying to balance – more... the schedules we have to offer – less

The rules change twice a day, and nobody has a scorecard but "management"
Pharmacy Technician II (Former Employee), Cincinnati, OH – April 15, 2013
Too many changes, too often, too few staff to implement them = dangerous environment for patients

Not employee friendly organization
Manager (Current Employee), Cincinnati – April 9, 2013
Pros: caring for children
Cons: culture
Children's Hospital is well known for incredible research and the wonderful care that is given to the children in the community, that is why I was so excited to receive an offer to work there. The excitement faded fast even for someone that goes to work with a positive attitude and works hard to help others. Trying to be a professional, but this organization – more... does not operate as if it truly cares for employees, starting with the HR Department. They are not there to be a "resource" for employees. It could be so much better! – less

Great teaching and learning environment
Registered Nurse (Current Employee), Cincinnati, OH – January 30, 2013
Pros: benefits
Cons: facility is so big that its easy to get lost
A typical day at CCHMC is non stop and busy. You definitely have to be prepared for anything because things can change and a matter of seconds. There is never a dull moment and I'm a witness to say you learn something new each day. This can be anywhere from a new way to do a procedure, a new way to prep, using new medical devices to how to take care – more... of yourself. There is a lot of teamwork, including management, which ensure patient safety and good outcomes. The hardest part of the job is trying to find down time to get everything done within a small time frame so its all about time mangement. The most enjoyable part of the job for me is seeing the smiles on children faces even when times are tough for them. – less

A wonderful experience
Travel Nurse (Former Employee), Cincinnati, OH – January 28, 2013
Pros: everything
Cons: drive back and forth
I was privilaged to work here has a travel nurse for a little over two years. I was as happy with them as they were with me and kept renewing my contract. I was a staff RN in the oncology/ BMT unit. I was responsible for patient care and administration of chemo and blood products. This is a truly remarkable facility. The hardest part was driving back – more... and forth every day to work there. The mose enjoyable was making a difference and being there for so many individuals. Most of my nurisng career was spent floating as part of a resource pool. I usually did not spend much time in any one area. Working here for two years I was able to get very close to several children that I lost. So dealing with that was very difficult at times. – less

Horrible Place to Work - Buyer's just say NO!!!!
Buyer (Current Employee), Cincinnati, OH – January 22, 2013
Pros: benefits start immediately
Cons: everything, poor management no direction, no flexability
The company may have placed 3rd in the country, but it is the worst place to work for. Micro-management, unfair treatment. It's not a true Buyer's postion. Nothing enjoyable about this place, you have to race to the time clock before and after work, NO flexability. DEAD END job, no advancement. Very stressful work enviornment due to poor mangement.

Protective Services (Security) Department AWFUL.
Security Officer (Former Employee), Cincinnati Childrens Hospital – December 26, 2012
Pros: a few good people i met.
Cons: everthing else.
Management awful, Supervisors just as awful, some co-workers in Protective Services were alright to work with, others were downright lazy, complaining about having to do anything. A few were playing the FMLA game and taking 12 weeks off per year in conjunction with off days/vacations. Unqualified people being promoted happened all too often at the expense – more... of others who were more educated and qualified. Others had the attitude that they were "owed" something, I wont elaborate but use your common sense and you will know what I am referring to. Just glad I had the sense to get the hell out of there on my terms. Worst position I have ever held. – less

Registered Nurse-young BSN and managment is not always fair
RN (Current Employee), Clinical RN II – December 4, 2012
Pros: the hospitals mission
Cons: management is micro manager, does not fairly apply rules, some people get away with anything, microscope on others for trivial things
CCHMC has made a move to hire all BSN new grads it appears. They never hire an experienced nurse. At least none I have seen for years and if they do it was less than a year experience. Our department has bullies and they run the place. Sad because the managment isnt fair at all and are part of the bullying as well. They target certain individuals. CCHMC – more... is a wonderful place with some bad people that taint the waters. One of these Days they will make some changes and move forward ..I am not sure how managment is getting away with hiring a group of friends as their team. Seems very unethical . Self governing is great but our manager manipulates it and creates new rules and spreads it to the rest of the hospital. She is very immature and unprofessional. I just don't get how she has gotten to where she is...oh...she was hired by a friend also...that is how! – less

Preventive Cardiology was a fantastic team with two great bosses.
Executive Assistant (Former Employee), Cincinnati, OH – November 15, 2012
Pros: the experience i learned will stay with me and priceless.
Cons: the personality conflicts were not appropriately managed by upper management.
The Director and Assistant Director made the group successful; despite having an office of very diverse personnel we were always able to work together; my favorite aspect was the challenge which was a daily occurrence whether it be budgets or payroll or assisting with writing grants.

An educational, eye-opening laboratory experience.
Laboratory Technician (Former Employee), Cincinnati, OH – November 2, 2012
Pros: cultural diversity, flexible schedule, intellectually stimulating, beneficial to my career interests, an opportunity to discuss and examine the teachings i learned as an undergraduate student
Cons: low pay, interesting though sometimes tedious workload
I truly enjoyed the time that I spent working in the Immunology/Allergy research sector of CCHMC. It was an opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life, and of different cultural perspectives. I learned a great deal with regard to research regulations and practice, and I found that a large part of the knowledge I obtained as an undergraduate – more... science major was largely applicable to the work I performed. As a result, I feel that I am a highly competent and committed student, employee, and have the confidence to approach any position with an open and inquisitive mind. – less

Wonderful coworkers/ Horrible management
Clinical Respiratory Therapist (Former Employee), Cincinnati, OH – October 18, 2012
Pros: teamwork with amoungst staff
Cons: poor management
Cincinnati Children's has gone from a family centered care for patients AND employees to a big corporation that has no concern for work/home life balance. The managers were not held up to the same expectations as staff. The coworkers are what make Cincinnati Children's a great place to work but with managers that have no clue and are not willing to – more... help out in poor staffed or high census times many employees are getting burnt out and leaving. I LOVED the patient population.

The facility even would do studies to improve employee satisfaction but there would never be any change or improvement and the surveys were a big waste of time. – less

micro managed
HUC (Current Employee), Cincinnati, OH – October 15, 2012
Pros: working with children, good benefits but they are so expensive you almost cannot afford them
CCHMC, at least in my dept micro manages you to death. Its suffocating.

A lot of Policies ( example: medical leave of absence) need approval from your manager/dept instead of HR, so be careful about what department you are being hired into.

You need to work 1250 hours per year to qualify for FMLA. So, if you are hired in as a. 5 FTE which is 40 hours – more... per 2 week pay period, you COULD BE DENIED A MEDICAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE AND LOSE YOUR JOB BECAUSE OF NEEDING SURGERY, HEART ATTACK , CAR ACCIDENT, etc!!!

Many people including myself injured on the job are treated like scum from Employee Health and CCHMC.
CCHMC will go to great lengths to try and deny your worker's comp claim. My advice.... get an attorney immediately. – less

UNFAIR TERMINATION
Shuttle Driver (Former Employee), Cincinnati, Ohio – September 3, 2012
Pros: great benefits
Cons: everything else
I was an excellent employee, never late, worked over-time, gave 150%. I was just hired, and almost finish with 90 day probation, when called to the office asked about a problem with my criminal background record which happened when I was 19yrs old, over 31yrs ago, and was expunged from my record.
Not only was the conviction not true, my record has been – more... clean since this incident, I have served my country in the military, delivered meals to the elderly for 10yrs, but fired from a job shuttling people back and forth to buildings. I 'm guessing all of the thousands employees with this company is perfect !....Where is the justice? – less
