Building on twelve years of powerful programming and results in Boston and greater Massachusetts, Citizen Schools is expanding across the country. We currently operate 38 campuses in 6 states (California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas), serving approximately 3,500 students. By 2012, the organization will serve almost 8,000 students in 8-10 states.

The Director of Development Operations will join a dynamic team of development professionals and social entrepreneurs dedicated to generating the resources needed for Citizen Schools to lead the nation in after-school learning. In order to support our national expansion and the quality and impact of our programs, Citizen Schools is in the midst of growing from an $11MM annual operating budget in 2006 to a $34MM annual budget in 2012. Citizen Schools secures funding from an array of sources, including foundations, corporations, individual donors, and government/school district funding. The Citizen Schools development team includes 10 staff at headquarters in Boston, and a growing number of development professionals in each of our state offices (currently 3, in CA, NJ and TX), as well as the Executive Directors of each state.

The Director of Development Operations will serve as the hub of this extended development team, working closely with the Executive Director of Development and the Executive Director of the National Network to leverage our current fundraising successes and unify our work. The Director of Development Operations will provide strategic guidance on states' development plans and foster cross-organizational alignment of fundraising goals and activity. She/he will take the lead on development operationsâ€"tracking and analyzing results; formalizing and creating systems (particularly technology and communications) that maximize the impact of everyone's work, and assessing how best to deploy our time and resources.

This is a full time position that reports to the Executive Director of Development with a dotted line to the Executive Director of the National Network, and manages the Database Administrator.

Responsibilities Include:


Development Operations and Systems Building


Lead the national development team's efforts to analyze the effectiveness of fundraising strategies and the impact of funders' investments, and check progress against fundraising goals. Maximize the effective use of our development database (Raiser's Edge) and other systems and tools (e.g. standing meetings, unified calendars) for tracking dollars raised and coordinating prospect activity. (This includes managing the Database Administrator, who has responsibility for gift processing, acknowledgements, mailings, and report generation.)
Liaise with the finance team to manage critical fundraising/cash flow data and establish system for integration of information across Raiser's Edge and new finance database (Financial Edge). Lead effort to capture, synthesize and disseminate regional best practices and strategies.
