About Citizen Schools
If our nation was founded on the concept of citizen soldiers, Citizen Schools is like boot camp for citizen students. The non-profit organization offers real-life apprenticeships through after-school, Saturday, and summer programs for middle school students. They learn writing and Web design, publish newspapers, run sports tournaments, and most importantly – more... gear up for a successful high school career. Some 3,800 students participate in an experiential curriculum that includes apprenticeships with about 2,300 adult volunteers. The program, which began at a single Boston elementary school in 1995, now partners with campuses in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Texas. – less
