Great Culture, Wonderful Values
Commercial Client Services Support Specialist (Current Employee), Flint, MI – March 6, 2013
This company is fantastic to work for. Headquartered in one of the most depressed cities in one of the most depressed nations in the country, this company has maintained a cheerful and positive presence. Promoting personal health, work-life balance and community service, this bank has been amazing to work for.
Unfortunately, they've been bought out – more... by another bank and it is no longer secure to work here. – less

Pros: it was a job
Cons: management, corporate philosphy, over bearing sales enviorment
Absolutley brutal company to work for the last 4 years of my tenure. From senior managment all the way to corporate philosophy, this place absolutly sucked. No interest in doing their best for the customer, it was all sales, all the time. Stay away!!

I loved my customers. We were like family. They came in almost every other day.
Bank Teller (Former Employee), Wilmington, DE – February 13, 2013
A typical day at work was customers sharing family stories, life events. Laughs with co-workers. Racing to be the first one to meet customers for branch and sales goals. Making sure they left satisfied. The hardest part of the job was geting investment referrals. People typically didnt carry liquid accounts above $50,000. Competitive Environment with – more... coworkers while showing teamwork effort. Individual goals vs. Branch goals. Team efforts. Helping coworker reach their desired goals. Most enjoyable part of the job was the relationship we had with our customers. They tell me to come back to this day. – less

Great learning experience
Image Quality Specialist (Current Employee), Flint, MI – February 7, 2013
What I most appreciate about my time at Citizens is that I learned a lot about the loans and loan documentation. I came to the bank, fresh out of college and with no job experience. Senior employees were willing and eager to help me learn what they knew about loan processes and interworkings of different departments.

Bad management
Teller (Current Employee), Quincy, MA – February 3, 2013
Co workers are very good to work with
Benefits and paid time off are very good
work life balance is hard because most of the time you work ten hr shifts
management does whatever they want. Aren't very good with the way they treat the employees that work for them
they pay isn't great and you you usually end up doing more then what you get paid for
no – more... support from hr
must like sales if job at citizens bank is wanted – less

I'm not bitter. I'm providing the ugly truth about upper management.
BM (Current Employee), Western Pa – January 30, 2013
Pros: health insurance, pto, 401k
Cons: no work life balance if you want to be successful. pto can hurt you if you take it
The retail director is the western Pa market has the priorities in the wrong direction. The focus on short-term turnover is frustrating to long-term colleagues making it known that if you are employed for less than a year, you will be saved regardless of your work ethic or performance causing horrible morale and demotivation. It has also been seen that – more... the director moral ethics and integrity is challenged for personal gain. By belittling managers, team members and also partners, the director puts the colleagues in fear of reporting the poor behavior and leadership by losing their jobs.

As a manager, diplomacy and patience should be your main attribute. You will not be given an opportunity to manage your team nor discipline as needed. I have seen theft, fraud and harassment with no recourse and top performers be terminated for absolutely no good cause.

Sales is sales. If you like that challenge then this perfect for you if you can deal with political drama. If you are liked, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. If you get on someone's bad side, watch out because after a year, you will be fed to the wolves.

Compensation: for a new hire, you are brought in at a high salary; however if you want to be promoted, you will be moved into the position many times with no pay increase and more responsibility because you were hired at a higher pay grade. Once you "prove yourself" in the position, you might be given a promotional increase in 6 months.

Incentive: you will be sold on the lucrative bonus structure. Not so much especially if you are in management. Bankers will often times bonus higher than their managers because they are in control of their sales. Even then, only a few bankers will make over $1000 in bonus over a 90 day period. Embrace your motivator because you will need it if you want any sort of a decent bonus. There is no way your bonuses would be a life changer. – less

Always something new to learn
Banker (Current Employee), Geneva, NY – January 14, 2013
Pros: excellent compensation for productive sales
Cons: inconsistent management style
A typical work day would entail one on one customer service and cash handling. A busy sales day would include one or more of the following: personal/business account opening, and lending applications. I truly feel that because of how extensive the job responsibilities are, there is always something new to learn. Although the management style was inconsistent, – more... it was satisfactory. My colleagues and I try to work together as a united team. The most difficult part of the job can be resolving customer issues; not all problems have a clear cut answer and there may be multiple resolutions for the same issue. The most enjoyable part of the job is when customers come back and express how good the service experience has been with me. – less
